Post subject:  Trying classic on matched reciprocal strings?

I’m toying with trying the classic tuning on my matches reciprocal 10 string grand. Is there anything to look out for? I’m not changing strings, and I know it’s just a whole step.... but figured I would ask....

Thanks in advance. Ad

I seem to recall doing the very same thing and I seem to recall the strings were looser and buzzed a bit more. I liked it enough (the tuning not the buzzing ) to get classic strings for my next string change. Easy way to see if you like it or not.

Actually you'll be tuning your melody strings up a whole step so they'll be tighter not looser. Depending on your string gauges you might be ok or you could possibly pop your first string. You might want to check your action after the change to see if the trussrod needs a tweek.

The bridge is set for MR so you may end up with some intonation weirdness, but with only a whole step difference you also might not. Worth a try though
