Been playing now, about a year, with weekly guidance from Steve A
Played a few shows out in public, and progress is being made. Chords and simple bass stuff, got it covered. Moving bass line and melody stuff...well...we're working on it.
Anyway...just committed to playing a set with a buddies band who has a theater debut in June. He then asked if I would like to do a couple solo pieces since the instrument is so unique.
I of course said YES.
Mind you...this theater seats 1000 people.
I am now feeling the weight of my decision. June ain't that far away!
Nothing like stark terror to motivate you to practice more eh?
Pray for me

OK - a quick method - record your improvisations for a couple of days, with either hand, and pick those musical ideas apart. Obviously anything you can play is within your grasp.
Then, arrange them into phrases with simple accompaniment.
Instant music!

Update.....
Last Thursday was the event...and not only did I live through it....I crushed it!
Solo songs played...Mind you...I play and sing over the playing
Lights - by Journey (including the Neal Schon guitar solo) Oceans - Hillsong United Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen
Backup musician on
It never rains in California Will the Circle be unbroken 1000 years Sister Golden hair Feel My love
Once I got into the groove of learning songs...it got real easy real fast. In fact...the Oceans song I learned the night before the event and decided to use it that night.
A great THANK YOU to Steve A for all his guidance.
The summer is full of shows with my 2 sons and the Stick is getting used more and more.
If I can figure out how to get the video off my wife's facebook page, she did shoot some of the Lights song, then I'll post it here
