After an additional email and a phone call, SE put me in touch with the pickup manufacturer. In summary: * SE advised me to forge ahead and try active mode, reasoning that cabling is extremely standardized, and it was more likely that I had a one-in-a-million bad pickup. * Villex pointed out that voltage drift in phantom power could damage the pickup. I've tested the phantom power voltages in my mic channels, but I don't know how to rule out voltage change under load. * Neither party directly addressed my question about cable connections. I finally took SE's advice and just tested active mode with the replacement pickup. It worked fine! Later, I'll post my thoughts about the sound qualities of the two modes. For now, here are my takeaways from this journey: * The pin connections in my original post appear to be correct. * Railboard pickup failures like this are rare; in fact, mine may be the first one to experience this type of failure. * Both SE and Villex were genuinely concerned and eager to help. I suspect the oddball--and potentially unique--nature of my problem made communication a bit difficult. |

Of interest, not to change the subject but you mention of emailing SE and not getting any replies.... that also happens to me as well all the time, and on the occasion where I do call randomly - I've gotten a poor elderly woman who can barely speak English and I feel so bad, because nothing can be accomplished that way either. There should be a way that registered Stick owners can get through the email system - or perhaps be given a different address that gets priority - as I bet the emails come in left and right there..... Not to change the subject but I've been emailing to find out why the Stickbass which I have $750 deposit on is still listed for sale, and i'm not getting anywhere. But it's all good. I have more than my fair share of instruments, and something truly unique has just caught my eye on Reverb anyway.... This is also to me anyway a prime example of where less is more as far as equipment and instrument goes. Where there are too many options, there are too many possibilities of things not working out or going wrong, and this cable issue is a good example of things going wrong. Good Luck friend !! |

WerkSpace, your first diagram does NOT match the TRS to dual XLR cable that came with my Railboard. Yours shows T and R going to pin 2 of each XLR, but my cable has T to pin 2 of XLR1 and R to pin 3 of XLR2. I don't see how your TRS to dual XLR could power a Railboard, as you'd get a positive pin in each side. I can't speak to your XLR-to-two-XLR diagrams as I don't have such a setup. Scronk, sorry I missed your post two years ago! I plan to post about my active and passive R-Block experiences in a separate thread soon. |

My railboard (which was second hand) came with a stereo to XLR lead, and an XLR to dual XLR lead. The stereo to XLR was TRS XLR S 1 R 3 T 2 and the XLR to dual XLR was Common Red Blue 1 1 1 2 2 - 3 - 3 If that helps. It all works as it should with signal and power. |
