For me changing between the railboard and the grand is quite simple. The instruments feel totally different when you hold them in your hands, so the brain changes automatic from one instrument to the other.
More often you change the instruments, there is less thinking about that.
I change during shows between cello, 8string bass and the stick, there is no time to think about stringspacing :lol:
Also the sticks: railboard medium strings MR
Grand1 classic light strings or grand 2: MR heavy strings
The railboard is for me the "heavy work instrument" and i love it for that e.g. show in winter: home 25°C , outside -10°C then in the showroom 30°C and nearly no detuning :!:
So for me there is never a question " railboard or grand" i always take both with me ;)

I've been enjoying this post. I've had 2 12 strings and sold them both, I just learned it and earned it on the 10 string. Still, if I could have an exact replica of my current instrument, I would get it in a 12 string.

Different pickups types in a live situation can be a bother, especially if you are using an ACTV-2 and Railboard. Maybe that's just me. I expect you will have a very different experience with the Stickup and R-Block though. Sounds like a great opportunity for a StepAbout.

My favorite part part was the crossover in the upper registers on the left hand. Having that high 4th tuning is also pretty special, it opens up a lot of creative chordal real estate. Would love to hear you do your thing on a 12-string.

I'd say go for the Grand Stick. You will get used to the spacing quickly enough, and you will love having the extra strings. Since you are adding a lower melody string, it will not affect what you experience as far as the spacing between the string groups goes for your current repertoire.

I'm a huge fan of the high bass 4th on the Grand as well, though you can just try that out by detuning the top string when you get it.

One thing that is very important is not to "flip" the board/inlay contrast. By that I mean, don't get a light-colored wooden Stick with dark inlays if your current instrument is a dark one with light inlays. This is much more disorienting than the string spacing.

I'm a huge fan of wenge, rosewood and paduak myself.

@ Gene apart from having a spare stick the idea is to have it going thru a whole different route. Stickup plain with just s little reverb so, different channels for different instruments. :)

I agree as well: the tactile feel of the different instruments immediately makes the brain switch from one to the other when you pick them up. Maybe if you had both a 10 and a 12-string wooden Stick, you might get confused, but switching from the Railboard to the Grand should be as easy as switching from your upright bass, to your electric, to your Railboard. (Unless we get to a 12-string Railboard! Which then might be confusing, although the weight would be different!)

Best of luck, Rodrigo! It's always good to have another Stick, and a 12-string Grand to me seems the best way to go for you (it's gonna be my next Stick purchase, but probably years out, unless one falls off the back of Ebay for a steal or a Stickist gets really, really desperate!)

The railboard is maroon, one is satine and one is rosewood.
I prefer the red and darker materials. I like the contrast: red /dark fretboard to silver coloured strings.
