Post subject:  Plum Railboard w/ black sparkle linear inlays?

I just made a last-minute color change to my Railboard order from black to plum. I had hoped for exposed linear inlays, but I forgot that they can't do that. (Makes sense... I imagine the drill press leaves a circular mark on one end of the line.)

In terms of pure aesthetics, I'm drawn to the idea of black sparkle markers. The tuners are black, so that way the instrument as a whole has a "plum with black accents" theme. But having never seen the plum color first hand, I'm worried that I'll regret not choosing an inlay with a higher contrast.

Any advice? Alternate choices are glow, silver glitter, and aqua glitter.

gold glitter... with black and gold tuners.

Because you can't see the frets as well on the Railboard, contrast for the inlays is pretty important.

Gold and plum are an amazing combination....

I ordered a Blue Railboard with Linear Silver Glitter. I wanted something that would show up well for positioning. I was going back and forth between Glow & Silver. I haven't seen any examples of Silver Linear, just Silver dots. I'm hoping it looks ok (just ordered it a month ago). I have problems seeing the dot inlays on my old Ironwood stick, so I wanted the linears this time around. Black glitter on Plum may be tough to see. Some of the Railboards run rather dark.

Can't go wrong with the plum but I gotta agree with Greg on this one: gold glitter on the plum sounds really cool! Throw in the black and gold tuners and...wow! But again, can't go wrong on the plum, although I'd stay away from the black linears on any darker Railboard (and the blue and plum are pretty dark).

Yep, I think Greg's onto something here... The more the contrast the better in my humble opinion (lol My opinion means nothing, though :D ) plus, that's a striking color combination! Pretty cool!

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll pass on the gold just because it would remind me of a gunmetal blue bass I had with gold hardware... and the gold drove me nuts for over twenty years! Just wasn't my bag, even though the colors went well together.

But I'll rethink the black glitter.

Hey dude, the black might be very cool... don't let a bunch of negative nancy's stand in your way... :D But the visibility thing on a railboard is kind of important; the wood instruments have frets/rails that distinguish themselves pretty nicely, but on the rail-boards, the rails are part of the instrument which for me was visually a bit weird at first. My rail-board is blue with pearl white dots...

Good luck, friend!

I called SE today and they confirmed that black-on-plum is not recommended due to the low contrast. I picked silver glitter as the next best thing. Thanks again for the collective wisdom!

My unit is out for anodizing now! Tick tick tick....

fwiw...
I have a plum RB. And I found that there was just not enough contrast for me to see well enough.

I think the contrasting inlay will help somewhat.

But IMO you need to be able to SEE all the frets easily. I got some car pinstripe tape at my local auto store an put it on the upper side of each fret. It makes a HUGE difference.

This was @ $2 and an hour of work and easily reversible.
If you search you might be able to find a pic that I posted.
