Post Replace belt hook
Hi,

I have to admit I am not a huge fan of the belt hook system to hold the stick.
There are multiple reasons, the mains are, too much weight on a single point... The belt. I can't really find the right settings not to have the board to close to my belly (I should loose a bit of weight!) which makes hands difficult to move. And last is the impossibility to play stand up or sitted with same settings.

I then used a NS design Boomerang Strap holder system. To attached it to the Stick, I removed the belt hook and added a piece of wood.
As you can see on pictures, this piece is done such a way that the point where the Boomerang is attached is around 18th fret.
On the strap, I added a string which is attached to the stock's head, to keep the instrument on the desired vertical position.

This piece of wood is still a "prototype", made of parts I had in my basement. I will in close future do it with nice hardwood.

I am really happy, this combination of Boomerang plus the piece added to the stick solve all problems I mentioned.

Hope this will give ideas to the ones who are not fan of the hook.

It is not PASV, it is a R Block... As my instrument is a Railboard.

Very interesting indeed! I also have a Railboard, and a bit more belly than I should  and I have the same issue - I just can't get the thing away from my stomach, which makes right hand playing impossible. Maybe you could share your design when you get it refined?

Neat hack, dude! Do you find that it makes it harder to access any of the notes, though?

Hi,

It would be a pleasure to share the design.
I will draw the pieces and give the dimensions. There is really nothing complicated.

And to answer to the question of some notes hardest to reach, in fact it is more of the opposite. It is from my point of view so easy to 'navigate' on the fretboard!

Yet, there is one thing I would improve a bit... The screw holding the Boomerang to the piece of wood can be, in very rare cases, on your thumb way. I need to find a way to reduce height of it... Probably by 'loosing' the screw in the wood.

So it seems that your design still has the weight at the belt, but just connected differently. The standard SE response for getting the Stick away from bellies is to use a non-angled (straight) belt-hook. I am curious why you went this way instead of just a different SE belt-hook.

But it looks like the actual "strap" part of it takes weight off of the waist; basically removing the existing neck strap I think, so you have an extended type of belt hook as built, along with a strap component? Hard to see in the picture of you standing, but I think that's what's going on here, correct me if I'm wrong... It's a good idea, being comfortable is such a critical aspect to playing...

Y'know, 2 years in and I'm still messing around with getting comfortable holding the Stick; I just did an adjustment to the belt hook last night so that I could more easily access the higher notes, but now the lower ones are a bit of a reach, especially with the "Lap Dawg". Always a compromise it would seem...
