Which strings are likely to break?
I am waiting on a 12 string grand. Was thinking of ordering a pack of mixed strings that are most likely to break. Any suggestions on which strings everyone has the most problems with?
I would assume the highest three strings. But never owning one I'm just going by my guitar experience. Does anyone ever have any problems on the bass side?
Thanks for any input or suggestions.

Re: Which strings are likely to break?
Hi Jeff. Congrats on the 12 string purchase. The only strings that have ever broken on my Sticks happened when I was putting them on and mistakenly tuned the high strings too tight, and the other time was when I leaned the Stick against a sharp corner. I have never had one break while playing.
I would guess that if you ordered some extra strings that were for the highest 2 on each side, it might be prudent, but it is unlikely that you will ever need to use them.

Re: Which strings are likely to break?
In 17 years, I think I've broken the highest string on my Alto Stick (a string tuned so high it's like a thread) about three times. The number of strings I've broken on my 10-string or my Grand ... zero.
I always have one old set on hand but have never needed it.

Actually, this thread is kind of reassuring; I have spare strings for both of my Sticks but I am always wondering to myself hmmmmn when is one gonna go... These poor sticks really do take a lot of abuse!
Two years for me, no broken strings. Knock on wood now...

Re: Which strings are likely to break?
Let me just say this board, and you all are the best! If the chances are so slim of breaking strings just having a back up set seems the way to go. I just figured bending would cause more strings to break. But sounds like the longer scale takes away the chances more then a shorter scale instrument.

Jeff, I can say with 98% assurance, you will not break a string while playing the Stick......you may have the misfortune of breaking one during a string change though if you tune way past the mark....
cheers, kev

Same here, in 14 months the only string that ever broke was during a change.

33 years playing. Owned a few dozen Sticks over that time. Play 3-5 hours/day. Never broke a string. Or a nail or an eardrum

Same, never broken one, and I like bending as well. I take a whole spare set when I travel to the ship , but have never used them yet.

Yes ... I mentioned that I broke the highest string on my Alto maybe three times. I neglected to point out that every single one of those breaks occurred while tightening up the high string during a string change.
