i guess most of play with equipment which is batteries powered.
but what are you doing with stuff which doesn't have this option and needs outlet socket ?
i mean generator would make too much noise..
is there a generator which can be charges and handle the power you need? (not those fuel noisy generator)

The (unpaid) gig I have played a couple of times is along a 5k benefit run on a route location that does not have power. I have a roland street amp. I also have double A battery powered me80 and a battery powered behringer mixer which I have not yet dragged along to the event. with the battery power units I have the freedom to be anywhere on the route. freshly charged batteries have survived the time "play" period thus far -

I envy buskers - no paperwork and your "heart on your sleeve". I'd love to do it (my "Siddhartha" fantasy) but first I'll have to invent "the funky generator". It needs a gas pedal to reliably control beats per minute and an exhaust filter that emits only the smell of incense.

This 8 cylinder machine would feature variable piston cancellation patterns for the funk factor.

What would the city authorities say? I could put wheels on it, with a drive shaft, and park it along the curb while busking. Wait a minute, we already have small cars that park with engine running. All I'd need is strict BPM motor control, the funk factor, and of course, fragrant emissions.

Then, when the show is over and the crowds are gone, I'd sleep in my generator.

Pascal Glanville discusses his busking rig in the current Stick.com artist feature:

Hi Boaz, are you about to hit the streets?
I've only ever used batteries busking , I have a roland KC 110 amp and just passive DI's and two pedals for that task.
I have seen some very small honda gensets a few times , made more for camping perhaps ,but they were surprisingly quiet. Cheers . B

Hopefully Andy Salvanos and Per Boysen will chime in cos they are some of the most experienced buskers out there.

My limited knowledge is as follows:

I use a Roland Ba-330 which was expensive but I use it for busking, daily practice, barbeque tunes, kids experimentation :) computer speaker, you name it. One of the best of many many many musical purchases.

It runs 8 AA batteries, slightly less power with rechargeables but hey...

Otherwise the ticket is to run a deep cycle (not car) battery and pure sinewave inverter to transform the 12 to 240v/120v whatever. Needs to be pure sine for a cleaner less noisy current.

I know some people use car amplifiers - small, powerful and already 12v so no inverter necessary. Just need the necessary connections for a small preamp.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Like Tim says, that reminds me, I have seem some street performers With larger batteries arrangements , Gel Cells and so on, which can easily be converted to whatever Voltage or AC and so on.

Anyone tried a solar powered amplifier?

I have a solar panel to charge the AA batteries. solar people indicated that is the best approach versus things getting quiet when a cloud rolls over!!
