Basic sound settings for live and studio recording
Ok let's get down to work!
Being a super vast subject I want to tackle it from the start.
From what I hear in tapes and video I believe that some of us would benefit from the answers to basic questions about music engineering.
As a studio musician I notice that with few improvements the stick could enhance the natural harmonics, so:
What parameter do you use in setting your plugins for live and studio:
What type and values do you use for your Compressor/ Limiter and Equalizer in both channels?
What type of reverb and what values after recording?
What type of environment do you use for Clean sound?
I could keep going .. and I am sure that more Stick players will have questions from the experts.

Re: Basic sound settings for live and studio recording
I think The Stick is simpler to record than most electric instruments. I tend to do less to a line-in Stick track compared to a guitar track, bass or acoustic instruments. Just cut down some frequency bands needed to blend it in with the other instruments in the mix and some compression. But it all depends on what I'm playing on the Stick and what the other instruments are playing. Right now I'm doing a lot "solo piece" Stick recordings for a library music project and then I typically try to catch the natural electric PASV-4 outputs of both sides. But if using the Grand to "play bass" in a track with drums I mostly set up a low frequency side chain ducker to create a pocket for the kick drum (the usual treat for any bass). In experimental music I may use this kind of specific frequency band ducking to make the stick "talk" with other instruments that overlap bands; this is because the Stick is all over the place with its full frequency broad note range. If having PASV-4 PU's it can also be cool to chose PU combination to match the ensemble in a recording.

I must be the last Stick player that sets up SM-57's in front of a bass amp and a guitar amp and records two tracks with effects. Never with reverb ,that goes on or not at the final mix of the song. I'm just a simple caveman, your plug-ins frighten me.

Hey Rob, nothing wrong with that, the classic combination of an Amp, Air, a 57 and a room has been pulling great sounds for something like 40 years, everyone needs at least a couple of 57's !
