Kevin Keith popping the bass - amazing
When I first heard this video I thought Kevin had overdubbed a bass part somehow, then I saw him play at the seminar on Gabriola.
Check out the popping of the bass notes he does by slipping his finger under the string, then pulling it up.
This is a great example of a relatively unprocessed ACTV-2 bass sound as well:

This guy is amazing. I want to get some of his albums. He's right up there at the top of my favorite players list. Amazing technique & tone.

Kevin Keith popping the bass - amazing
Wwoooowww!! I've been a fan ok KK since last year, actually one of his videos is my favorite on groove department on a stick but i've never seen slap on that way on a stick, and myself being a bassist primarly, this make almost cry of joy jajajaja. Thanks Greg for posting this, actually if it wasn't for you pointing out how he does it, i will guarantee a overdub or a bass player a la Milli Vanilli jajaj

Once you get it down, it's really fun. You can only pop to the pitch of the "open string" but I suppose if you put a capo on the instrument that would be one way to integrate it into any key.

Hey Greg,
I've been playing around with this technique a little bit since you demonstrated at Interlochen and have discovered that I can pop any note by "capoing" the strings with my right hand 5 (I think) frets below the tapped note.
It's a fun technique for sure, and thanks for showing it.

Kevin Keith popping the bass - amazing
Thanks Greg, I will try to play pops to see how it feels... And nice idea Brad, actually i'm thinking, how about prssing the string with left hand index, and doing the pop with the middle finger nail? That way you can move around without the compromise of the open string, actually is similar to a bass technique that victor wooten use

Huh, I still don't get how that is done? I can kinda see but not really. Is he snappin the highest bass string then. The tone is nice for sure. I would like to figure this out and see if you can get a faster type slap rhythm going. I wish there was a close up demo to analyze. you out there kevin? help us out buddy!
