A week from Saturday I'm performing on Cable Access in Portland and was wondering what I would need to do if I wanted to perform "Cross Country" live on TV?
Oh and where did the title come from? Hi Steve, Most broadcasters will ask you for a list of the material you have played so that they can log it accordingly. If they do, just give the the publishing info that you find at the bottom of the first page of the chart. You don't have to ask permission of the publisher or anything like that. It's also always good form to say who wrote the song you're going to play, whether it's an original or a cover. The title of the piece?....Like most of the pieces I've written the title came after the music. It reminded me of that feeling of driving on the Interstate through flat open expanses in places like New Mexico, where you can see really far, and the scenery is really beautiful. There's a great tune called "Interstate" by the band Oregon which you should also check out...

I got the form and the melody down, but I was wondering if you had any advice on how to tight up on soloing? the keymaps are great but, what can I do to improve and solo smoothly over these great changes?

Actually, I always like to say this (or something like it): "Don't play the solo with your hand, play it with your head. Be creative, not regurgitative." And as far as these changes are concerned, the B natural in the G7 chord is the magic bullet.

Hi Greg!
Here's the melody!
I can see about 3 things wrong with it already, but please tell me what you think?

Hi Steve, First, it's always great t hear other people working on my tunes. And I think your basic time is great, so everything else is just working out the "technical" aspects of being able to play the two parts together. One suggested approach would be to simplify the bass part by just playing the first note of each bar, and really concentrate on executing all of the notes in the right hand clearly. Don't work on the bass part much until you have the melody totally down. Another thing to work on, and this might help the whole thing groove a little better, is to make sure that when you get back to working on the bass part to include all the ghost notes. They really make the left hand's part swing more.
