Mine is I believe an '84 build - #1212 - and it's called "Ironwood" or Pau Ferro and it looks a lot like yours.

Thanks Marty.

I'm no wood expert but Pau Ferro does seem like a good match.

Actually, matches are typically made from poplar, pine, or aspen

I’ve seen the arguments re “tonewoods” for electric guitars, including videos from PRS showing how they use “tapping” of the body blanks to select “resonant” pieces for PRS guitars. I noticed that this is never a topic of discussion among luthiers!

I also note that I’ve similarly never encountered any of that superstition around the Stick.

I guess there's a use for most things & to an extent it depends on what you're looking for (sound & sight)...

...& what you have to hand!

Some combination of "beauty is in the ear of the beholder" and "it's not what you have, it's what you do with it &/or how you use it"?

Variety can be a useful & interesting thing. :)

If it was a good enough to be selected for instrument use by Emmett (& now Grace), we trust it. :D

I was hoping "we" would get the joke. On BassChat, the British betterment of TalkBass, tonewood debate is fanatical to farcical. I tend to the latter. (Spinal Tap?) And yeah, my bamboo Stick sustains for days...

Yeah, and technically that's not even a 'wood'!

However, it's more than a 'match' when it comes to 'tonewood'. :D

If you want a lower tuning I suggest Baritone Melody, which is easy to compensate for. For that tuning you'd need 3 shaved screws, for strings 2, 3 and 5.

Having spent a few weeks with Classic tuning, plus reading around a few topics on tuning, I'm getting to see & appreciate the logic behind these 'offset' tunings & how they link to the inlays in a way that make the note layouts sync beautifully with the Circle of Fourths/Fifths.

I also see the attraction of the Baritone Melody range, so I've just ordered a set of light BM strings & shaved screws from SE (& changed the tuning on my Grand Railboard order from RMR to Classic 6+6).
