The outer strings don't have the same volume as the inner strings. This is true. You can adjust your touch accordingly or use some compression. If you review past threads, you can find this topic comes up from time to time. Over-compression does eliminate dynamic range, so it is a balancing act.

A couple of points here...

1. If you action is high or your pickup is not adjusted properly, this is definitely a possibility, but with hand movement as a basic technique, and the right praamping, the relative volume of the strings has never been an issue for me. Plugging into an impedance mismatch will make the thinner strings too quiet, and eqing in a lot of low end will have the same effecrt.
...snip!......

Greg,

How does one know when one has an impedance mismatch? How is it resolved?

Thanks and regards,

I've seen Greg Howard one of his videos says. I'm tapping the strings lightly now, now I'm tapping them hard. I've heard Emmett say, tap lightly let the amp do the work, turn up your amp.

Tapping lightly I guess you could say can give you a lot more headroom depending on the motor action of your fingers. When I tap lightly, and have my amp up, then I tap harder my amp breaks up.

I guess you have to find a sweet spot that works for you.

I'm just a schmo and don't know fuck all about anything, but if you learn how to tap lightly, you could tap harder down the line. And you will be better for it.

If you have a passive pickup the input device that you are plugging it into interacts with the sonic character of the instrument. Too low of an impedance can cause the sound to be "pinched". The Stickup is a full range passive pickup. It has lots of full lows and clear highs, so when you have it plugged into a high enough impedance, the sound "flows".

Most devices will give you the spec of the input impedance. 1 MOhm is a good standard.
