Good idea but the problem is it would be one topic and each player/student has their own needs. Many concepts in my book and DVD might need personal interaction.

Thanks for the quick reply. I've got your book and DVD.
It's a great resource for learning the Stick. I play every day.
My only issue with personal interaction, is that I forget a week later.

With videos, I edit them and break them down into smaller sessions.

I always suggest taking notes during a lesson. Some concepts I refer back to the book. You will retain the info.
And the mini lesson is gratis. Nothing to lose

BTW..

Take him up on his offer for a free lesson, you'd be nuts not to. If only just to talk to someone who's played the Stick for quite some time...

Lol just don't talk about tuning in thirds haha

Some of the common issues people experience with this instrument are just clearly not that well addressed. Easy as that...

Brand new to the Stick and I need help figuring out how to tune this thing! I have an alto stick, classic guitar tuning, but this thing is so different I'm completely lost! Tho I have Free Hands by Emmett Chapman it's a bit overwhelming to read - there seems to be an assumption of everyone having at least some music theory under their belt. I have none. I play by ear.

First of all welcome. Secondly where are you from?

Third do you know what tuning the alto was setup for?

That info will help us help you

From Colorado. Bought myself a Stick for my 62nd birthday in 2017. Saw Bob Culberson many many moons ago at a Boulder Mall playing and selling his CD's and had to save and save and save to get an instrument.

That should be all you need. There are different variations just like a regular ten string
but I chose Bob's because of your inspiration 8-) . Try not to tune too high because you can break
a string. It is important to have the right tuning with the right strings but the idea is a little
overrated for someone new to the Stick. Just get it playable so you can explore the instrument.

Also just to get a little technical about terms :geek: "Classic" or "Classic Tuning" is a real Stick tuning for "The Stick". "Classic guitar" is not but there is a "Guitar Intervals" tuning. I reccomend that you stay with "Bobs Expanded" which is Matched Reciprocal" for the Alto. Guitar Intervals
is much harder to learn even if you are familiar with the guitar. the Stick is not a guitar
and it can be more confusing when we try to make it work that way.
Good luck.
