Progress Video - Del Mar
Here it is, where I am at two years from where I began. Not so bad, but always looking to improve.
Today was the deadline and although there are a few hiccups and "crash and burn moments" this tune was tough as hell for me and sadly when the record button is pressed this is the best I could do today. But all is not lost, I learned a ton from working out this tune, new skills and all that. Thanks for checking it out, I will gladly accept any and all criticism; I won't be this terrible for long so y'all better enjoy it while it lasts! hahaha This one took me about a month...

Re: Progress Video - Del Mar
Happy 2 years, Scott! May I suck as bad as you after another year! (Or 3!)
Not bad at all for a month spent on it. I must say that the guitar version of this that you showed me is quite tasty and expressive (and funny!) But the point was to get this done 2-handed in realtime on Stick.
I think this one just needs some more practice. You can always just run through this song quickly whenever you're playing. Scales, Scales. Scales. and then Del Mar, and then chords in inversions, and then Del Mar, and then the other 12 songs you've been learning, and then Del Mar, and then back to the other exercises and routines you do....etc.
Good work, Scott!

Re: Progress Video - Del Mar
Words are not enough to express all I want after seeing this video. Sorry if I don't have enough vocabulary in English but here it is: Now I see a stick player, a musician, not fighting the instrument but rather becoming one with it. Greg will pardon me but this video is not about the song itself: it's about the man and the way his hands are relating with the instrument. Congrats Scott, for your Two years and especially for your musicianship. In my humble opinion, everything developes from here, this exact place you recorded today: bass lines, slaps, rhythm patterns, accompaniment, chords, melodies, voicings, solos, counterpoint, and anything else you will create for the next decades. Congrats, and thank you for all you've taugh me as I watched your evolution.

Re: Progress Video - Del Mar
And for reference, I was listening to this gawdwful version of the tune, 'cause it was funny Created and re-arranged by some lunatic... The Chicken is from around here... his name is Buck... I'll leave this arrangement up for a little while, it fits with how I was practicing, and is part of my "Del Mar Story"
And of course THIS video, which has really not gotten enough views; it's a great little piece of music. In my opinion it's almost criminal how treasures like that get overlooked. It pains me to watch mine after seeing how easily Greg wails it off, but hey... it's for my journal so it's all good! lol Anyways, do me a favour and watch Greg's a few times. He does some really cool stuff!
Stephen, Rodrigo... thanks for the kind words! And thanks for checking it out, it's not the best but it's what I could do at that moment. My videos aren't about "hey look at me..." but rather "hey, I'm trying to play this thing... any ideas...?" Off camera, I am actually a lot better at this tune, but that damned record button... for some reason it scares me, which is weird. I even had a sort of solo for it, but I decided that until I can play through the song itself smoothly recorded, then no soloing. Besides, theres time enough for that later...
This tune was technically quite a bit beyond me, so it took quite a while to learn it. I'm glad I did, as I learned quite a bit from it and will continue to learn from it as I refine it. It didn't help that I started messing with the fingering once I had already learned it... Ahh well, Today was my deadline, so I had to post it... it was do or die....

Nice one Scott & Happy Two Years I must admit I have been paying much more attention to Gregs stuff lately, the depth of information and music is something else. Good work, not an easy task but you did it!

Mr. Scott.! Quote: I won't be this terrible for long so y'all better enjoy it while it lasts! You Sir, are real Gold. The only thing I'd like to offer would be to make the most of the duration in the triad chording, as they move quite quickly, yes? I think it's around 1:00, it looks like quite a challenge to make that sound smooth, but would we have it any other way..? Luv your creative courage, humour and honesty, bruv.

Scott, this is great! I wish I had been able to play this after 2 years. You rock like a real bunch of mariachis. Love the tune and the way you made it yours. Way to go!

Re: Progress Video - Del Mar
One of the challenges of this piece is that the LH motor doesn't naturally "sing". The melody sings very well and beautifully at that. So, my "point for improvement" for you, Scott, is to try and make the LH dynamics and touch support the melody instead of sounding block-ish against it. I forgive all your hiccups, and instead want this LH sound worked out. You have a very good start.
