Post Progress Video - Part 3 of my Stick arpeggio thing

Okay, so here I am at my 3rd week of hitting the "Stick Arpeggio" and trying to gain some independence as I go. I watched the first two, and then this one and it's pretty interesting. Again, I'm not trying to teach anyone anything; these are for me. I just thought it might be cool to share it week by week and see where it goes!

Someone sent me a message on my youtube page telling me that procedurally it's a lot simpler to work on both parts separately, and not even worry about trying to do them simultaneously until it just naturally "happens". lol The hands will "migrate" towards simultaneous-ness. Right. Well, I agree that a "hands separate" approach is necessary maybe initially to learn the parts, (y'know figure out where the heck to put your hands...) but from my experience so far it seems to me that it's best to get both hands working together as soon as possible otherwise the learning process takes a lot longer. I'd be curious to read what anyone else thinks on the matter. For me, it's definitely a matter "knuckle down and train..."

And of course, there's more than just this that I'm working on; there's a whole pile of tunes I am getting together which I'll share as I go. Y'all can definitely expect "Del Mar" later this week, I am still polishing up my guitar tracks for that one and cleaning up some Stick glitches. That's been an interesting endeavour that's for sure!

Anyways, this weeks progress dealt with a couple of nasty scalar sequences in ascending fashion, as well as a few riffs I liked the sound of that I want to get used to playing over. I'm still working on the positioning thing; I think I put my "Lap Dawg" in a position that is not so conducive to my elbows being out; hopefully I'll have that rectified for my next video...

Oh yeah, here's links to the other two...

"Real learning comes from putting the hands together..." Can't agree with you more.

I can play the two parts separately ALL DAY LONG and still they never just "magically" come together unless I play them together. It's exactly the same for piano and drumming for that matter.

Another good vid, Scott. I now have the "Scott arpeggio" in my head.

Totally agree on that one: mine don't come together until i take the time to "teach" them, note by note, what they should be doing while the other is playing something different. A good exercise for me was picking up piano independence exercises and translating them into the stick... Come to think of it, about 80% of my practice time this past year was learning to do basic piano exercises on the stick. Some I incorporated into my playing, others not that much... Yet! They'll come in handy some day ;)

Hey guys, thanks for checking out the video!

"Hands Together"! Okay, I gotta get to work on "Del Mar" now. I just finished my shred guitar version (Which I did for a bit of a break from Stick) which is radically different from my Stick arrangement, but it's interesting in it's own way... I will post it if it's okay with Greg.

The Stick version is coming along nicely, but I am a bit dissatisfied with my "soloing" over the progression. Other than that (which is a big hiccup) I think I am almost ready to post it. Maybe it doesn't need a solo? I dunno...
