IMO - Playing by ear, puts more focus on the melody and harmony. 8-)

Kind words, guys. I can't tell you how much I appreciate each and every one of your replies;
You folks are the "experience" on this instrument, and all of your comments help more than you can know?

But the Hacks have just begun... And the search for my screwdriver resumes...

Im not an official stickist (My stick isnt in yet) yet I do teach brass lessons at three schools though. Cant you just learn to find something that is a bit easier and build on that. In other words set your goals a little lower. You wont be as discouraged and once you feel some success you can move onto harder and hard things. Im sure cats like Steve A or Greg H werent doing walking bass lines and killing it on the melody side in under a year. (just my guess what do I know)

Aim a bit lower. You sound great to me and I appreciate you posting these videos.

Looking forward to contributing stuff in the near future. Then we will see who the real hack is. LOL

I like what Clair said, alot. There is no legitimate or prescribed way to play the STICK, in fact its ripe for New ways. I understand Your frustration ( well ) but you are making a concerted effort clearly , play like yourself as an aim, not to be like someone else entirely , but of course we look at other players. So get to it!! :D

Part of being a music (Stick) teacher is being a life counselor. Attitude, meaning, self worth, quality of output etc. are all part of the journey. The lesson dialogue is always information, inspiration and therapy. It is truly a personal interaction like no other. Gratification on both sides. Always a developing storyline. The adventure is always forward even if not immediately evident. Just ask The Karate Kid.
BTW. ...my car is super shiny....wax on wax off

Jayesskerr,

...you're indeed a lucky beggar, because you have so many good posts
on your item...

...but what is the main thing, your voyage in the universe of music
or your goals...
...and what are you doing if you reached your goals....
