Many times we talk about drummer's independance with their hands and feet. What about this organ player playing the bass at the same time. And this style of music appeals me so much... |

Oh Yes. This is really nice Alain, thanks for posting. Love Jimmy Smith and cats like him that can pull this out. Larry is mighty! Another fun track that has Larry Goldings holding down the bass part on B3. |

Anyone hip to this German chick? It must be so satisfying to control that much music and sound and take it so deep. She takes a 2 foot bass solo towards the end. There's a guy around L.A. named Skip Van Winkle who does this in a more R & B bag but just as good. The closest I'll prolly get to knowing that feeling is the Stick if I live long enough to get it together. |

Yes, Barbara Dennerlein is amazing. She was first pointed out to me when I was still in high-school, by a bass player friend who also introduced me to many other jazz acts. And here's another one, maybe not as groove-oriented, but very original, too: |

hah - good thread. I just happened across this Dr John video showing how he plays IKO IKO. I am just amazed at how he (and others) can keep such a funky, melodic bass line going while playing great leasds... |
