As for the looking at the fretboard, I'm 7 weeks into my learning and I look a lot. I do notice that if I didn't have to look I would have better posture when playing. I try not to hunch too much, though. :-) As wferguson said, I'm sure that's just a matter of time and memorization.

It really is just a matter of time and memorization.

I've been into my Stick for over a year and I've come to a point to where, yeah, occassionally I have to glance down at the board to see where to put my fingers but once I land in the pocket I can visualize the pattern in my head. My fingers just take care of the rest.

I can damn near do this blindfolded. I can certainly play in the dark and I can definitely do this with my eyes closed. In fact, it's actually better that I keep my eyes closed and feel the groove.

I've never been able to do this before with a guitar, bass or even a keyboard. I was forever looking down at the frets/keys. I chalk that up to the fact I've never taken a formal lesson in my life and over the years I probably developed a lot of bad playing habits.

I don't know if it's just that I've arrived at a point to where I'm just comfortable or if it's a function of the Stick's design or if it's just plain magic - frankly, I don't care as long as I'm achieving what it is I'm aiming for.

Yeah, I must say that while playing the last couple days I've felt an instinct to close my eyes and trust my fingers. Maybe I'll give that a try for a round and see what happens.

On the hand-in-pocket-to-fret-without-looking exercise I was either 1 fret or 1 string off with the right hand going to frets 7 and 12, which I was pretty pleased with.
