Post New Video - "The Evolution of my Stick Sound" - Kevin Keith
Hello everyone!

For anyone interested in the tech side of the Stick world I'll be periodically creating videos covering topics like pickups, gear, midi, etc.

This first video covers the broad strokes of my journey from mixers and amps to computer based tools. Hope you find it useful.

Thanks!

Kevin

Thank you, Kevin! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's been anticipating a video such as this. Thanks for revealing your setup and the logic behind it. It definitely leaves a lot to think about...

Request for part 2: your Ableton Live setup - routing, tracks, scenes, i/o, sends/returns, and your live looping setup as well. I'd be very interested in seeing this.

Kevin,

I'd also love to learn more about your work at Ableton.

What about hexaphonic technology, too? Have you given up on her? I love your old Roland VG/GR recordings.

I'm also waiting for the next video titled "The Evolution of my Thumb Sound" ;)

Thank you very much Kevin. We all need to travel towards our own choices, but it's really useful to hear (in all senses) how you arrived at yours. :D

Thank you!
This video is intended to be a broad strokes look into how i've evolved into my current rig and the tech that supports it. I'll go more in depth going forward.
Thank you for watching!

Thank you David, yes! You totally get it!
My hope is that this video speaks on the process of finding who you are as creative musician. With that information a musician can select creative tools that will fulfill their unique identity as an artist.
Thank you brother, always appreciate you.

In the intro piece of this video I am using a Roland VG99 and a Roland GI-10 to create those big pad sounds.
Roland Hex technology will always be a part of my rig and my music. All my Sticks have hex pickups.
Thank you for asking and thanks for watching!

My slap technique is probably the part of my playing that is most asked about.
I'll be building some tutorials on that as well.
Thank you so much for your interest!

Absolutely. I try to keep my Ableton setup powerful but as intuitive as possible. Once I'm on stage the goal is to focus on the instruments and the music. If I'm successful at that then i've implemented the technology properly.
It did take a while to get it to that point though! Lol

Thanks to all of you for watching, for the great questions and for your interest.

Very interesting video, thanks for recording Kevin!

I'm looking forward to the slap tutorial whenever that comes out, and hopefully any other tutorials you decide to make in the future.

Hi Kevin,

Very interesting - thanks for making this.

Some time ago, I recall you saying you used frequency-specific compression on the bass side. I can’t remember the exact term for it. Did you achieve that by using the Dbx160 or some other approach - another effect? Would be interested to know.

Thanks again for sharing this!
