I rebuilt the body of the second instrument that I built. I did this so that the ergonomics of the instrument would be better. It worked out well.

I just build instruments for fun. Build details and more pictures here:

I'm working on something like this too, was wondering if you have any good ideas for strap button placement. I don't think a standard guitar straps gonna work too good

The 2 options I see are
1. Go with the setup used on an NS/Stick. That included a bar that extends out towards the head stock in order to get the strap button out far enough to avoid neck dive, or
2. attach the strap they way it is done on a Warr Guitar or a TouchGuitar (look on line for a picture as I'd have a hard time explaining it.)

I've done both (on the blue one above I used method #1.) I prefer method #2 but it is tricky to get a good balance and have unobstructed access to the upper frets. Either method will work with a standard guitar strap.

Hey Russell: What pickup model is that?

The pickup is an EMG TW40. The TW40X is a better choice and I have that in other instruments. Both of these have 3 coils so you have a "single coil" and hum-bucking mode (although 2 of the 3 coils are always on so you never get any 60Hz noise and so are technically hum-bucking.)

The X version volume stays the same when switching between "single coil" and hum-bucking mode. The non-X has a much lower volume in "single coil" mode. That is why I like the X version of the pick over the non-X.

I actually got rid of the bar on my NS, as I almost took my eye out with it, and simply put the strap like on a Gibson SG where it picks up the body by the neck joint.

This required no drilling, the instrument hangs and balances very well this way.
