It is a MIDI drum controller with highly sensitive pads (my Z4 has 24 but there are other models). It was inspired by Roy Wooten's homemade "Drumitar." Roy uses a Zendrum with Bela Fleck and Flecktones (along with an acoustic kit and percussion). Here is a tune I recorded with the Zendrum. I use it for all my solo tracks that have drums. Recently, I added a foot pedal for a pedal high hat sound and shifter module that lets you change sounds assigned to a pad on the fly with your foot (e.g., snare center to rim shot or cross stick). They also now sell a "Stompblock" pedal sound module that will power the Zendrum and comes with a great set of sounds or you can load your own. |
