This summer, my friend Tom Kraus came over to record a series of improvised pieces for our Duets release. He played a new song for me inspired by the story of Janusz Korczak, a doctor and educator who, along with Stefania Wilczyńska, worked tirelessly to save the lives of orphans in the Warsaw ghetto. Despite many opportunities to save his own life, he opted to stay with the children of the orphanage. He perished in Treblinka in 1942.
This work in progress features Tom’s song with added orchestral parts and instrumental sections with LinnStrument violin and acoustic bass. The guitars and vocals will be added as we finish the music and arrangements.
Janusz
Feel again...the sun upon my face Kneel again...never in this place The children sing; I tell them, "Hide your sorrow" They don't know...they'll be meeting God tomorrow...
And all in the world that I wanted Was to teach them and show them a way... To grow into good, caring people, But the Iron Boot steps on our necks and we don't have a say...
Still yourselves...hold on to my hands Follow me...you will never understand Dry your eyes...there is nothing to be done One last look...at the glowing August sun...
And all in the world we have wanted Was some peace and a place to call home But that isn't meant for today, child... And I promise you that I will not ever leave you alone...
Upon casual listening, it would take a far keener ear than mine to determine that the violin and double bass weren't authentic. A testament to your proficiency on it, and to the modeling capabilities of the LinnStrument. Most impressive.
