Virtual instruments have certainly come a very long way and when combined with expressive controllers, you can have the same expressive possibilities as acoustic instruments. The Audio Modeling line is among the best for string and wind instruments. Cypher 2 from FXpansion is currently my favorite synth for expressive controllers and I used it in my last recording.

I am not from NC, but Steve (the guy playing the piano sound) lives in Asheville, and his wife made the amazing artwork on the wall behind us. Asheville is a fun town!

Jeremy, another stunning performance... What I appreciate about ALL of your posts is the musicality in which you bring to the table.... whether you are playing the Linn, keys or the Stick, your performance is seamless. As far as the Stick, you are a player who "plays" the Stick, instead of the Stick playing the player.... Also, you have an uncanny ability to really sink into whatever style of music you are playing... A few years back you posted something that I loved. It was very "Weather Report Joe Zawinul" sounding... and you nailed the feel and attitude perfectly. Always inspiring ... :ugeek:

Thank you so much! We are all exploring new territory on these instruments but have to stay grounded in something musical. My taste in music has expanded, but I tend to start from the 70's era fusion and prog rock bands. That can be dangerous because it is so common among Stick players and I find I have a tendency to repeat myself.

Changing up the instruments and trying to learn non-fusion/prog pieces has helped bring in some variety. Lately, I have been accompanying a guitarist at open mic playing Jackson Brown and Elvis Costello tunes which is its own challenge because you are there to embellish the music and not step on the vocal.

I have also been working with Greg on hand movement and the three finger method in the left hand to avoid position playing and have more interesting lines. One piece that is really helpful in that department is the bass line for Superstition. I found it nearly impossible to play at first with one hand and now I can mostly play it.

For the video recording, Steve put together the framework and I was trying to keep up. He really has the two handed playing down on LinnStrument which is something I have not really focused on yet. I am now inspired to learn "A Child Is Born" on Stick.

Working with Greg, hand movement and 3 fingers for me was the key to open up my playing on melody and bass...

A Child Is Born I think was a Thad Jones composition. Anyway I love the music but especially what you two did here. Sounds so seeet and expressive.

Thank you! I have heard the song before but never learned it. I found it in the Real Book which will give me a starting point.
