I agree with the above points.
This "bit of wankery" is merely that. It's an excerpt/example of his technique...improvised over a backing track. (as you'll see there is a "take two"). Don's composed pieces are much more melodically dense. But again - have to hand it to him for the improvisation.

Glad to share stuff that people can think on/enjoy/be inspired by/ or even just say "that technique is cool, but not for me".

Tap on brothers and sisters! Tap on!

I thought that fellow was pretty good, sounds great but honestly I got tired of it pretty quick. left hand hammers/pull-offs with mostly one RH finger doing taps, sometimes two fingers... Didn't look or sound too difficult, honestly. (not a diss, just saying) I'll check out take 2 later tonight...

But I do like seeing folks playing this sort of thing, I really like TJ Helmerich, Nuno, Vai, Satriani, Batten, Steve Lynch, Adam Fulara, Stanley Jordan etc etc anyone who uses the technique to create an interesting piece of music is cool in my book...

The Stick (for me) is about self accompaniment. It's why I bought it (them) I suppose I could play it as a sort of "extended range guitar", but honestly I'm much more interested in self accompaniment over flashy single voice weedly-wee stuff. Things like developing improvising simultaneously with both hands, multiple moving voices, counterpoint, poly rhythms, and stuff like that.

Samurai Fingers, how about posting some tracks of your own?

Can I infer what Brett's deleted post was about? Or does "Mehldau" say it all. Putting the two in the same thread is contrasting a cultural divide that is perhaps difficult if not impossible to cross.

Or is it?

This disparity is exactly the reason why I brought up the idea of bass side composition
approached as an etude.

Or how about this; when creativity is channeled through the lens of "how can I market this
idea" as in exploitation, it is like taring the wing :|.

Wish I could. I don't have a stick...yet.
I'm gonna order a RB in the near future.
I've been a professional session/touring guitarist and composer/producer for film television for the past 10 years with the guitar as my main instrument(none of which features stick)...but as time has gone on and arthritis has begun to take it's toll - stick seems a much more ergonomic instrument and I'm hoping that I'll be able to play well into my 40's and beyond! =)

BUT if anyone is interested, I'd be glad to share arrangements, performances and original pieces here (or elsewhere on the forum)

Best,
Nick

I like this video better. He slows it down, to show how it's done.
