Post "Fretless Bass" on the LinnStrument
I recently made a series of videos while wearing the LinnStrument - I play this way when performing live. Here is an improvisation using the Iconic Bass Jaco library from Orange Tree Samples.

Another nice demonstration of the Linnstrument and some fine noodling, there Jeremy!

I was considering getting that sample library. Now you’ve gone and really made me want to get it. Beautiful playing. I assume it’s all in fourths the linnstrument?

I hate / love this.

Now, don't get me wrong, Jer - you are a hero, but you are touching on some sacred ground for me.

Here's the thing....

It's sounds amazing. So, that's that...

I love it.

Thanks to all for the kind words. The LinnStrument is “tuned” in fourths. As a very, very bad fretless bass player (and not much better at fretted bass) this allows me to have some fun and make recordings. That being said, I prefer to play with an actual bass/Stick player!

Very very cool. You've nailed that 70s Jaco live tone, especially with the midrange boost, the mild distortion and the rich effects.

As a fretless bassist and Linnstrument owner, I appreciate your technique. It's interesting to note that the Linnstrument offers the ability to achieve many of the same qualities (depending on your sample library, of course) including bends (sliding) when you want, but also helps the initial note (attack) to stay on pitch - versus starting off a note between the fretlines (off pitch) and sliding into it, which is only possible with real strings and wood.

Does your sample library also do harmonics? Now that would be interesting to hear. :)

Thank you! Yes, the library has harmonics but I need to map them conveniently (perhaps to velocity or aftertouch) and practice using them. There are mute samples as well. Here is a link to the library - https://www.orangetreesamples.com/produ ... -bass-jaco

LinnStrument does solve the problem of playing out of tune on a real fretless instrument. I have a fretless guitar and the MultiOud from Godin and they are challenging to say the least.

:? Usually I don't think that emulations or samples like this work that well. You just can't fake the real thing. This one surprises me. It could fit really nicely into a recording and no one would be the wiser, except us . If it was a blind test though, who would know :| ?

Can I ask what operating system you are using? Mine is 10.8.6 so I doubt the
software would work. Also I think that bass sound would be beautiful on a keyboard
or even a Stick with MIDI. Easier than getting a half fretless ;).

Post Script  Sorry for the unnecessary question Jeremy, I checked your links and low and
behold this software will run 10.2.6 :geek: Cool. I would really enjoy hearing this
played on a Stick if anyone has that capacity :)...
