Post Re: Prezident Neutron Daze
Here's one of my better attempts at vocals and songwriting in the past. This was 2013, and I've come a long way musically in the five years since. And this piece reminds me that I can do this (singing) if I just try really, really hard:

My long-running tradition of doing a song for Federal Holidays has produced this piano + drums piece this morning called "Prezident Neutron Daze," for Presidents Day.

I spit out a rough score, just using Pro Tools' export score function. It'll give you the flavor, although the split between the hands is approximate. (Score on page one).

I totally relate with this post.... gotta find out our own way of doing things, our own sound... I’ve also been learning that the voice is like any other instrument. We have to learn how to use it right and practice hard. I’m actually considering lessons.... just because this one’s the hardest to have an objective point of view on.

I hope, Rodrigo, that you don't take voice lessons. You're a fully matured artist and performer. Your language is one of the world's most beautiful, the tradition rich, and your expressive voice, hands and fingers, face and personality an integrated match.

I feel your career should just continue as a series of exploits, rendering your favorite songs and blending with other artists and opportunities. Reputation will develop over time.

Your fortune cookie for the day, Emmett.

Post Re: Prezident Neutron Daze
Piano and drums version

[Emerges wearily from the basement studio...]

I was determined to make significant progress before I posted another update on me trying to do vocals but not showing any pudding. "Less Talking, and More Rocking," as Sink's Law #23 says. You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat. So now I'm two stages past where I was last: now with background vocals complete, and then lead vocals all written and mostly in the can with a first draft that I can sing against and make better versions.

Scott/Jayesskerr wanted me to share a rough draft before the weekend was over, so at 4 minutes to midnight last night, I finished a rough draft of lead vocals to new piano tune formerly known as "Prezident Neutron Daze," and now a song called "Shine," which I will not share with you until it's complete. But I'm super excited to have finished the melodies, lyrics, and cut a rough draft version of the tune, with me singing from start to finish. I already did all of the background vocals first, which are much better and easier than the lead vocals. Put me down with Michael Anthony and EVH on being able to half-ass rock out some background vocals with no problem--but lead vocal is not usually my thang. It's that lead vocal that's a bear, but I've been working really hard on sucking a lot so I can get better. Hope to share soon!

Here's what cover art will be: "8K Forges of Hephaestus #2."

And I made a temporary remix version of the song using just background vocals and wordless vocal melodies, much of which will not even appear on the final. This was fun to do all by itself, and is easier for me, as I mentioned, than doing lead vocals. I've got 3 versions of this tune with completely different vocal humming lines, which are fun to do, but probably have no audience other than amusing myself. But this is how we learn, get better, and accidentally stumble into occasional accidental awesomeness (you can't have accidental awesomeness if you're not pushing yourself and the envelopes.) But that means a lot of crap to wade through. But that also means the diamonds shine brightly amidst the dreck, should they appear.

I shared this version with Scott/Jayesskerr, who keeps listening to my warbles and giving me encouragement.

SHINE Backing Vocals Remix Version

Next, I'll share the mostly-different version with actual lyrics and words-that-are-sung, instead of just crooning, soon. I'll post the lyrics later as well. I'll keep working on it and share when I reach the next milestone, which is finished vocals. Then we add NS/Stick to it--the "easy" part!

Cheers!

Steve, I was going to send an email reply of what I thought but it's pretty short so I figured it would be fine here in your thread;

Sounds awesome! Good job, man!
