Hi everyone...nothing to see with the stick

I want to give you a link where you can listen (digitalized instruments) an orchestration and arrangement of a song composed by Michel Cusson, a famous guitarist in Québec, Canada. He's a good composer and he did this theme for a french movie (Un homme et son péché (2002)). On my side, because I like this kind of music and also because I like to make orchestration and arrangements I did my own version of it. I wrote each note (step by step...like hand writing) with a programm called Encore. Then I saved it in MIDI to assign the instrument you'll hear. I wrote it for 3 flutes, 4 violins, 2 cellos, 1 trumpet, 1 trombone, 1 alto sax, 1 tenor sax and finally a double bass.

I hope you'll enjoy. It's here: https://soundcloud.com/kataway/reverie

I very much enjoyed that Alain! Pretty decent patches for all of your instruments and a very pleasing arrangement, and a very nice composition by your friend.

I've played with Encore before, but it's been several years and several versions ago. It was too cumbersome of an interface for me, but you've done well with it.

Thanks for sharing this, Alain!

Thanks paigan. About 15 years ago I used Encore to write for a string quartet (2 violins, 1 viola and a cello) to play with me on guitar. About 23 songs if I remember well and these people don't improvise. So, I had to write everything note by note. It took me 3 months before it was completed...lol. Then some rehearsal with them. I presented this concert only 2 times and I paid these musicians before receiving money on my side. It was quite an experience though. First time I was writing for strings. Before that I wrote a lot for brass sections in big bands. I like to write like this 'cause I use different techniques to reach my goal. Today what's so interesting is that I can write again and to play it with these virtual instruments. It's not the same but it gives me an idea of what the results could be with real musicians. Thanks again for your comments.

Michel Cusson is from the Jazz-Fusion band UZEB with another Alain: Caron ! ;)
I used a lot the Encore software, playing with MIDI tracks and sound libraries. Good job Alain!

That's right, Michel Cusson, Alain Caron and Paul Brochu are UZEB. They played together lately...after 25 years with each one on his side playing in other projects. I didn't see the show but I've been told that it was amazing.

Encore is an easy software to work with. I don't use it with a keyboard plugged MIDI. No, I just write note by note, like I would do with a pen and a staff in front of me. The only thing new for me is that I discovered lately how to assign digital instruments to each track...wow...that's nice to hear exatcly what you wrote, how it sounds, etc. Just love it.

Thanks for your comments.

Pretty cool, man. I liked this a lot; Anytime you want some crazy rock/metal prog arrangement of some of your music, you send me a score, I will make it happen! :D

I can't promise that you won't be scarred for life upon hearing it, though! hahaha
