I was feeling curmudgeonly and didn't want to like this Lettice person. I admit that she seems to be both a true force of nature as a personality, and an extremely talented and gifted musician and performer. And she sings! And now I like her and want to be in her fan club. Wow, that was quick.

Awesome! Lettice Rowbotham. I'll have to keep a look out for her!

Please don't hate me guys...

Y'know, it wasn't bad playing, and she is tons better than I will ever live to be but Mark Wood has been doing that sort of thing for quite some time, and really, I am not so sure I really totally dig what Mark does all the time... I do see that she is playing one of Mark's violins. And jeez, do I ever hate that tone. Guitarists of the shredi order everywhere try to get a tone that sings and sounds like a violin, I feel like violin comes with it's own built in gain, and it sounds cooler unprocessed... And her vocal, nope. Me no likey. I suppose it has the potential of being a Vegas circus act, but meh...

lol Itzhak Perlman, Midori, Hilary Hahn Stephan Grapelli, the great Yo-Yo Ma... Heck the guys from 2 Cellos... that kid from my recital 40 years ago... I could go on, there's lots... how about old fat guys with bad hair everywhere who REALLY have talent? Haha

For me, it seemed like she was just kind of noodling over backing tracks, if that was the key to superstardom, you would have about 3 billion guitarists lining up to get chewed out by Simon Cowell.

Not my tempo. (Hurls chair...)

First saw these about a year ago. Put me in the "I like her!" bucket.

I see your point and I wanted to hate her when I first saw her for being pretty. And yet quirky. But then I said "Aren't I dismissing her obvious talents because of the fact that she also has obvious talents?" (wink and a nod--I'm joking more than actually being a dirty old man.) I am not blind to her beauty nor talent. Yet your points are compelling ones.

And yet wasn't it on one of these same British talent shows that that "frumpy" british talent singer winner (googles "frumpy britain talent singer winner" and Susan Boyle came up! Google is all wise and all knowing!) won on the strength of her talent and not her beauty?

So I see that I'm conflicted here and also a dirty old man--who does appreciate her quirkiness and spunk and personality a bit more than her cleavage--which I'm trying not to hold against her.

But yeah, why the pretty talented ones? That's entertainment!

Also, I wondered about that violin tone. I did not like it either. But I put it down to her quirkiness. Good to hear that I wasn't alone in that. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

I also assumed that she could write music too, but that a talent show would want to hear covers, and so she played accordingly. I think I agree with her. But can she do more? I have no idea!

lol I guess 'hate' is a strong word... Let's put it this way, her violin playing and tone is way better than mine, but I still don't 'love' it... hmmmn, maybe I'm just "indifferent"? lol I dunno...

Not my cup of tea. I respect it, but I just don't really love it... I'm sure she's very nice though...

I loved 1:20 in the first video where she said she was too hung over to be nervous. I really like how honest she is, too often violinist are pegged as stuffy know-it-alls. She's got a great sense of humor and that goes a long way with me.

On to the musicality part, she's very good. Electric violin has that same tone that many (okay, all) acoustic electric guitars have. I'm pretty certain there are a number of violinists out there saying the same darn thing about Chapman Stick (you can't just play bass?). It's okay, it's not them, it's me.

I'm hopeful this will score her some tours with big name acts doing violin and vocals. She's talented at both. Thanks for posting.

I thought I'd post something contrasting with the original since we're talking about talent...
