 Re: A Closer Look At A Krappy Touchstyle I had the chance to check out the U8 that Markus was playing with the Stickmen a few years back. I didn't have tie to do an in-depth comparison, but while the instrument is gorgeous, and very playable, the action was a little higher than on my Stick.
Markus Reuter is a monster player, so I would never compare myself to him.

That's certainly a unique approach! Hence the name and owning everything that the name implies. [shakes head....] I guess you get what you pay for (which should be their self-deprecating slogan, maybe?)

Re: A Closer Look At A Krappy Touchstyle if you read the whole site, eventually you will see that the disclaimer is for everything EXCEPT the Touchstyles. it's in the fine print somewhere. not that there was any reassurances about the quality though. my feeling was that it was worth the gamble. the pics he has on the site are awful, but the instruments do still look nice. i took a chance and i'm glad i did. is it comparable to other $800 guitars and basses? idk for sure because i don't play guitar or bass but my opinion would be yes.
but as far as the precision and craftsmanship compared to the Stick? comparing the 2 would be like i said once before, like comparing a Honda to a BMW. (well made and functional vs. precise and efficient engineering)

Re: A Closer Look At A Krappy Touchstyle Well, I just ordered one!!!! So what am I getting? 10 string, dual bass reciprocal tuning. Bloodwood body, maple, paduak, jatoba neck with leopardwood fretboard. I designed the body myself. I will be adding an active preamp once I receive it. The preamp is the Pro-Z made by Audere Audio. Here are the specs: Volume Neck (bass) Volume Bridge (melody) Treble Tone Control with center detent Mid Tone Control with center detent Bass Tone Control with center detents Mid Range Frequency (750, 500, 250 Hz) switch Z-Mode Switch - 3 position LED Battery Meter The The Z-Mode switch changes how the pickups electrically respond to string vibrations. The defaults are 1) Low Z - Deeper sound, 2) Mid Z - Passive sound, 3) High Z - Brighter sound applied to both pickups. Each Z-Mode switch position can be independently programmed into 1 of 9 Z-Mode configurations for more versatility. He has already started the build and sent me the rough cuts pic:
