In the spirit of offering something up for everyone, no matter what tapping instrument you play...this subforum needs a palate cleanser... Gene Perry turned me onto Lagunitas's Hop Stoopid Ale at last October's Stick Night, and I just love it:  Fortunately for me, it only comes in large bottles so I only drink it when I have someone to share it with... Another recent favorite is New Belgium's 1554 black lager  deeply wonderful. Go try some and then play some music to refresh your soul. |

Yeah, 1554 is pretty popular. Lagunitas makes a Cream Ale that is amazing. My favorite beer of all time is still Achel Bruin. |

Green Flash is opening its new location in Virginia Beach on Memorial Day. Their West Coast IPA is very fine, like a bold cabernet with strong tannins. It may be worth a trip from my new home an hour or so away.... maybe I can combine it with business or a band practice.... I reckon there are so many good beers out there, especially with the advent of a vibrant microbrew economy, that I should now issue a top ten list. 1) Green Flash -- West Coast IPA 2) Humboldt Brewing Co. -- Nectar IPA 3) Ballast Point -- Sculpin IPA 4) Firestone IPA 5) Virginia Beach Brewing Co. -- Hoptopus Double IPA 6) Stone -- Ruination IPA 7) Bell's Two-Hearted IPA 8) Green Flash -- Pallette Wrecker -- Triple IPA 9) Aleworks Brewing Co. -- Drake Tail IPA 10) Bear Republic Brewing Co. -- Racer 5 IPA So, I like IPAs... okay, sue me. But Humboldt makes a great porter... it's called Xanthus. Superb. Hardywood in Richmond, VA makes a fantastic Pilsner. Ommegang, the NY Trappist monks.... the only Belgian I will drink. Can't think of any lagers. I'd rather drink water and smoke some good pot. K Rex |

We have a local brewery, "Fargo Brewing Company" (who'd have thunk it?) They make quite a good North West style pale ale [Stone's throw], as is the trend it would seem. I'm personally not a huge fan of the stout/porter darker beers, especially if there's a tinge of coffee or vanilla in there. Just feels off. That said, as a current college monkey, the best beer is free beer. |

I'm not a hoppy guy at all. Love my malts. Favorite all time theakstons old peculiar not available in CT for past few years. Smuttynose "really old dog ale" is as close as I can get or brew my own "old" recipe. |

The only beer I really don't like is a Brown Ale. Newcastle should be banned in the states as a poison.Guiness, too. Anyone who uses high fructose corn syrup in their recipe is off my list. Guiness is pure crap. Brett, have you had Old Rasputin? Powerful, bordering on nuclear, but great tasting malts in that one. K |
