Re: Tapping "Free Hands style" on a 64 rubber pads grid
Thanks for sharing, Per! Awesome!
I am a big NI fan, I have Komplete; that combined with Logic ProX's stuff and I feel pretty equipped. I must say that my keyboard skills have improved quite severely since I embarked on my Stick quest. But I have been thinking about picking up Maschine...
Ableton does some nifty stuff, but I feel like Logic has me covered...

Re: Tapping "Free Hands style" on a 64 rubber pads grid
I don't want to hijack Per's thread about the PUSH 24, but the NI Maschine has opened up an entirely different area of composition for me that is entirely sample based. Here's an example of something I created deliberately using only NI products: Maschine and several Kontakt percussion samples, and some random samples I had lying around. I'm also using Maschine to do the "scratching" effect throughout the piece, and Reaktor is taking my percussion samples and turning them into bass lines. Also, I'm feeding percussion MIDI notes into a bass line--changing every high hat to a low B flat synth bass, for example. I'm very proud of my mad scratching for this tune. For someone who plays strong melody-based keyboards, this is using an entirely different side of my brain. Not one "note" was played, unlike how Per is using samples of each piano/oboe/string key mapped out chromatically and triggering them (which is how a synth works, just in a 64-pad grid). I'm just triggering long sometimes-8-bar samples and then scratching like it's a musical instrument (two turntables and a microphone!).
Pardon the quick example of my own stuff using Maschine and NI products. (Hello, NI if you're reading--I'd love a sponsorship where you give me a bunch of stuff I was gonna buy and use anyway!)

I've been using Logic since version 2.0 and Live since version 3.0 but today I must admit that Logic feels more creative for my work. With the new stuff like the MIDI plug-ins (arpeggiator, MIDI mapping, Scripter, Modulator), Alchemy (yes, I have a hardware joystick assigned to the X/Y remix pad), Drummer tracks with artificial intelligence driven groove making... well, it's faster and more creative than I'm finding Live and I get more out of the Push as well in Logic.

And here's another better one, played on the Push armed by the fantastic Hans Zimmer Piano from Spitfire Audio. With this expressive sampler patch you can really hear the performance dynamics made possible by the Push.

Another good one, Per. You're right about that Hans Zimmer patch; nice sound. Thanks!

I am a BIG fan of the Alchemy Synth. So fun. I think that maybe, Per working in different DAWS maybe just forces you to be creative differently! Lol

But when it comes down to producing a track for a specific purpose and getting it done on time, then I prefer doing it in Logic.

I do completely different types of stuff depending on the DAW I'm using. That's why I try to master one of them (Pro Tools--not there yet!) but play in others from time to time. And no Pro Logic on the PC side, so that's not a PC option. I can use Maschine as a plugin within Pro Tools to further complicate the use of multiple DAWS to do different things well. (And DAW plugins within that plugin, and so on down the rabbit hole.) BRAHM! [Inception movie trailer sample].
