Re: More Late Night Sticklooping Jams
Thanks! Yeah this is by no means my full set, this is just my bedroom practice amp.
My full set up is essentially the bass side through a PODHD500 and the Melody side through the GR-55, with the true Melody side pickup routed out to other FX. Everything goes to a full range amps, like the KC500.
With regard to the GR-55, I spent a good long time fiddling with the string response. I've got it now where my glitching is at an absolute minimum... I have to play a little harder to get the notes to sound than when I'm using the true stick sound, but for me it's actually a very nice compromise... instead of getting false positive notes, if I hit something wrong I get silence. SO from this point it's just a matter of nailing the playing technique when using the GR-55.
I'll still have the true stick sound processed separately and faded in at my discretion. The heavy COSM tones do kind of suck, but honestly, I'm not a "heavy" type of player, generally. My days of super overdrive (on treble side of things at least
) are behind me. i got the GR-55 specifically to explore blended synth tones (and COSM acoustics, which are useful if you spend time EQing) I'm been getting some REALLY cool tones out of it that are very useful for my needs, and I think what really takes it to the next level is when I post-process the GR-55 with another stompbox modeler. I work with a lot more experimental sounds so being able to have a bizarro dulcimer and synthpad (?sure why not) style patch come out of the GR-55 and then into a broader FX board is really opening up some insane sounds for me. In my band it's me, a guitar player, and a drummer. Our guitarist already does some really intense looping, so I'm not necessarily needed as ANOTHER guitar-like instrument (stick melody).Having all these outside tones lets me fill out a lot of space inbetween and add a whole other layer of noise to the music.
