Beat Buddy
So, I received my Beat Buddy Friday and wanted to get a video up and give my thoughts on it. So far, I like it! There are plenty of features to play with. Odd time signatures and for those of us that don't use Macs, software to create our own drums. The Mac version should be out soon.
I like the idea of controlling the drums and not being stuck to a loop or a pre-recorded drum track. It takes a little getting used to but I am digging it!
The footswitch comes in very handy. There is also a headphone jack. It is true stereo so the signals are one hand in each ear but you can practice without disturbing the rest of the household.
I recorded this straight from my Stick (The Block) into the Beat Buddy (stereo input and out) right into my Tascam US-1800. No post production effects. What you hear is what you get.
Enough gabbing, here's the video!

Re: Beat Buddy
Thanks for that. I'd like to hear more about your Beat Buddy experience after you've used it for a while. I think it would be really useful for helping my time sense to practice long with something like the beat buddy. I have a drum machine of sorts in my Zoom G3, but it is over simple to be really useful. Maybe the Beat Buddy would be more useful.

Re: Beat Buddy
Damned drummer was too loud. Seriously, that was neat. It seems like it would take a little getting used to (maybe just a little less for existing drummers-turned-Stickists), but being able to do "on-the-fly programming" is very cool. This looks like a potential great solution to the problem of programmed beats being uber-boring, and locking the player in unchangeable arrangements every night. Thanks for posting this!

Re: Beat Buddy
Cool stuff! I was going to actually pick up a Beat Buddy, but availability seemed limited and I decided to re-invest in a unit I had previously; the Boss DR880 Dr Rhythm. Pretty much the same thing, but a différent interface, plus a guitar and bass fx processor (Boss GT6) and also really Great kits and bass samples. I also really like the pad layout. Really fun for inputting drum parts, bass parts, and jamming as a finger drummer. Good fun, and an excellent practice tool.
I have a Kieth McMillen 12-step that I plan to integrate with this unit. The only drawback is a glaring lack of storage space for original pre-programed stuff.
Looking forward to hearing and seeing more Beat Buddy expériences!

Re: Beat Buddy
Yo yo yo! What up, samsonstick?
How's your Beat Buddy been treating you? I'm on the edge of getting one.
Any annoyances?
Thanks!

Re: Beat Buddy
Hey everyone!
Sorry, I just saw this.
I use the Beat Buddy primarily for practice. I did gig with it a few times and it wasn't bad. The downside for me has been that I use a MacBook and the software is still windows based. So, I haven't upgraded the software yet. I also notice that when using it standing up the pedal feels "high". like a big stomp box, my muscles get fatigued after a while. But, that's just me not working at it more.
The foot switch is awesome. No complaints there. It's nice that it's a stereo pedal or mono so you can run the Stick however you want.
I like the tempo tapping feature so I don't have to bend over to change the tempo and the footswich allows me to cycle through the folders. Nice, selection of drums and time signatures.
Would I buy it again? Yes.
Even though I may not gig with it, it's great for practice.
