I Will Always Be Amazed
Here is a tune written by a good friend at our church. In the '90s a bunch of us musicians at our church recorded an album of songs written by people in our church. This is my version of one of those songs recorded last week. There are a few goof-ups, of course, but it turned out well enough to post:

This is recorded direct into a Zoom R24, but I did 're-amp' my dry-recorded voice through a TC Helicon Voicelive 2.
Cheers, Marty

Re: I Will Always Be Amazed
Marty, Beautifully played and performed well written Contemporary Christian song! You have a great voice and that truly is a gift from God. The TC Helicon didn't hurt either!- I am always amazed how natural you make it sound. I still say that singing and playing the Stick is like chewing gum and walking, and balancing plates on your head, while spinning a hula hoop around your waist and hoops on your upper arms all while holding an egg on your nose and juggling a bowling ball, ping pong ball and a live chainsaw..... err I think it doesn't get the credit it deserves. As I said in the Dale L interview, people focus on the singing because that is ALL they can do in the shower, not play Stick in the shower. Thank you for this inspirational post in a possession obsessed world. take care, Dave Brosky

Re: I Will Always Be Amazed
Beautiful tones on both...your stick and your voice. Always like what you play...congrats.

Sounds great Marty, man you make it look easy. I also appreciate how tastefully the harmonizer is used in this, subtle and creative. It must be very gratifying performing this for your friends at the church - good job!

Re: I Will Always Be Amazed
Bravo Marty, excellent!
Dave, singing and playing is not so difficult. The secret is: break it all down in tiny snippets. Play little bits, veeery slowly, and check where the words happen between or over the chords and notes. Then put 2 pieces together, practice a bit, add a third piece, practice again and suddenly you can carry a tune. It'll take you two months for the first one, two weeks for the second tune, 3 days for the third song and then you'll learn them presto.
I've noticed that the most difficult thing is remembering the lyrics.

Re: I Will Always Be Amazed
Colorfully expressed D.Bro', and with grand humor, but my Italian mind immediately conjures up the reverse scenario. if you're doing three things at once by singing over your two-handed play (plus some twinkle toes on your pedalboard), it all turns into a unity again (unless of course you could sing in counterpoint with yourself and believe me I've tried).
Lotta coffee here, nevertheless:
If you truly enjoy the sound of your own voice, backing it up with a snappy Stick arrangement and embellishments, everything jells, becomes simple again. Look at the "amazing" Marty in action and how about Jim Lampi and Dale?
Then, if you represent someone else, let's say God, an entity greater than yourself, or maybe praises of General Motors (too big to fail), you have the potential of losing your ego, that strict frontal lobe of cortical control, and you're free - a free flow of musical intelligence!

Re: I Will Always Be Amazed
Marty! Really nice vocal arrangement and Stick accompaniment. The two components go together so well, it's like you can forget the division between voice and instrument. Wow.
