Post First video of me playing my bamboo Chapman Stick
Although I've had my stick for a couple of weeks now, I haven't had much time to do much playing--until last night. This is just some noodling on my bamboo 10 string (with stickup) through a Fishman Loudbox. Enjoy it for what it is :)

Nice video… good to see you exploring and tapping to express the sounds in your head! You will benefit quickly if ya take some Skype lessons with Greg. You will develop some good habits and technique quickly and also learn the relationship with the tuning. Best of luck to you!!

Embedding the video... :D

That was fun. It looks like you at least have seen Greg talking about hand motion, and not playing repeated notes with the same finger; there was some of that in your left hand.
How did you get the video so tightly focused on you in the center? What program did you use to edit?
Enjoy the process as you go along! Congratulations on your first posted vid!

Congrats,
I have to admit the bamboo sticks have always intrigued me. Wondering if they are lighter in weight than the other hardwoods...

Yes, they usually are much lighter. Bamboo has the same hardness and strength of the good hardwoods at maybe half the weight. I had one (rclere has it now) and I loved the weight. Some of us think there is also a very subtle difference in sound. There's something about the ringing in the high harmonics that's different and very pleasing to me.

A couple of weeks? Kudos! I did enjoy it, for what it is and the potential it represents.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

I had my first lesson with Greg before I went on vacation last week, and it was really insightful. I've ordered his Stick Book and I'm going to work through that for a little while, and then take lessons here and there when I can. My book went out yesterday, so I should be getting it soon...

It's something I started practicing a few months ago after watching a bunch of videos and noticing that he did that. I only had a guitar at the time, but I practiced it anyway. Keyboardists use a very similar technique for repeated notes.

Actually, my own assessment of my technique is that it's currently very wrong; I tend to let my thumbs float, and in my lesson with Greg he said I should really be anchoring my thumbs for more stability. I'm trying to remember to use a lot more hand and arm motion, but in the heat of the moment, I just have fun.

It's currently like 100 degrees in the bay area, hence all the fan noise.

This was recorded by my girlfriend on my iPhone 5 and sent to Youtube directly from my phone. :)
