a la "Maiden Voyage" (first Real Book tune I learned how to play on The Stick)
For me it's perfectly right. And in the RH I just tried it with a D bass note, then another D (octave higher, 2 frets lower), A (5th) and E (9th)...sounds great. Same positions for the other chords...F7sus4, Eb7sus4 and Db7sus4... A good trick to combine different chords or triads in both hands...thanks.

Nice skills Kataway. There must be a jazz lounge gig just around the corner that needs you.

It's so difficult for me to get a jazz gig in Montreal while it was my main way to live in the Dom Republic. Can't beleive it sometimes. I started to study this music in '79 (after 11 years improvising on different styles) and almost 35 years later I still love this jazz music and all the different approaches you can study to go further in your musical explorations. Good day to you...

Re: Jazz chords exercice
Had to come back today and listen again. I tried yesterday too but the internet cafe's computer was infected with a virus and tried to say sites like soundcloud, google search, and gmail don't have security verification certificates. Even if you tried to allow the exception, it still wouldn't work. Different computer today so all's good.
With these skills, anywhere you play becomes a jazz cafe. As far as getting paid, it's perhaps got to be a devotional practice offered to the universe with the lack of appreciation for jazz just about everywhere. Bakti and puja for Quan Yin. (Devotion and offerings)

Re: Jazz chords exercice
I don't want to complaint about my situation but jazz, for me, is a music for a nice conversation between musicians and people listening to it. Like any language existing on earth, it takes time before you catch all subtleties and when you reach a level where you can "tell a story" it's fun to share it with people who want to listen to it. One of the issue is that there is new "learners", others who want to "tell a story" and when you get older you don't have the same listeners than before. There are so many new learners here in Mtl. And honestly they are really good. Their "stories" are different and I have (very often) the impression we didn't learn the same language...even we are talking about the same music...jazz. I made my time, I had fun and today it's someone's else time to be on the scene. It's ok. I like to be home anyway and continue to explore this music without having this "need" to be on stage. Sometimes, when I can, I like to go in cafes or other places to listen to them, just to hear what language they are speaking. I have to admit their skills are really high. But very often I go home and they didn't talk to me very well. It was more a monologue than a dialogue. That's also ok. I just make the effort to understand what they are trying to tell me.

Yeah, it's as close a metaphorical match between music and language as there can be.
An example in the rock genre of someone with huge skills but who isn't telling an interesting story is Steve Vai. Great technique. Lots of passion... but it's missing something else very important.
