Simple Independence Lesson video from Greg on the Railboard
Hi everyone,
I've just posted a simple independence exercise video.
Any Stick tuning, even SB8 and NS/Stick can work for this video.
I hope you like it.

Nice, Greg... Here you provide more of your hand-independence exercise content that I appreciate (both on Youtube and your DVD). The superimposed beat count is good.

I'm glad you like the superimposed beat. I tried using a recorded metronome, but it's too intrusive. This is more work for me after the fact, but works better I think.

...thanks Greg for this happy tapping, indeed...
...but in your melody part I prefer notes moving down and not up for practice... c, b, a, c, b, a.... instead of a, b, c, a, b, c....

...but in your melody part I prefer notes moving down and not up for practice... c, b, a, c, b, a.... instead of a, b, c, a, b, c.... Yes, Yes, Yes... Any variation you can imagine on this exercise will expand its benefit. I cannot tell you how many times I've gone to a seminar and people say "I find it really easy to play up scales and really hard to play going down scales." It's because they are not using hand motion, which helps with the release timing as you descend on the string. Practicing descending lines is really helpful, especially if you want to do more than just pull-off notes. Pulling off is fine, but it has one sound, and "clean taps" have another. what happens when you get to the first finger and there's no more pulling off to do?, the next note in the descending line will have a different articulation. So practice both, pull-offs and clean taps, and be able to control which kind of articulation you are using at any given moment. You should be able to have a consistent articulation whether you are moving up or down a string, or transitioning from string to string. That's the goal. Then you can add the inflections you want and be in control of that expression, instead of letting your sound be determined by fingering habits. When you find variations that are more difficult than others, take note, and focus on those. Beyond "warming up", there's not much point in practicing things that are easy for you.
