Time for my first Stick video - Red!
So, it's time for my first recording attempt with Stick, thanks to my new POD that can work as an audio interface. The timing is far from perfect, and there are several wrong notes, but I'm still posting it here. So:

Ripping. The opening section is especially nicely done!

All that, AND having programmed the drums, too! THAT'S a labor of love right there. That's a really good effort, Fuz; you picked a tough one, and clean performance or not, that took guts. VERY NICE work on the bridge - sounds great! Keep recording, let's hear more!

Good job! That opening by itself seems daunting. I love this song, one of my favorite from this era of crimson. I play it on guitar, never tried it on Stick.. Did you find tabs for it, or arrange it yourself? Also, kudos on the drum programming as well!

Re: Time for my first Stick video - Red!
Thank you guys I used a .gtp transcription that I found long ago when I played a guitar, as well as made some arrangements myself. As for the drums, I mostly imported them from a midi file I found and then processed through a couple of VSTs for better sound; no real drum-programming involved so far (I have to try it for the next recording attempt ). Other noticeable issue is that there is a lag/'click', though very short, when the POD presets are switched (can be heard after the intro/before outro, as I used a different preset for the left-hands chords sound). Can't think of a workaround save for an external delay pedal.

That was fearless! I love it! Usually I have some comment I hope is constructive, but I've got nothing.

Re: Time for my first Stick video - Red!
Fuzzy,
Wow, first attempt and you go for "Red"! That is like a Jamacian cliff diving. (How do you practice that ) I am really impressed you would take on a piece like this of such magnitude and one with great history among the fans of progressive music.
You captured the multiple time signatures including 5/8, 7/8 and 4/4, in addition to It's polyrhythmic melodies use of whole-tone scales. With all that, and since it's not "Who do you love" by George Thorogood with one chord, I think you should be granted all the leeway in the world, especially by yourself.
I listened to the original recording then re-listened to yours- and you do a great job of capturing the essence and all the nuances of the original. That's the goal.
These video posts are brutal. IMHO, most of us can not edit them without professional multiple camera angles to "hide" the edit or splice. So this turns them into a 6 minute live recording where the record button just stays on, along with some visual of the artist playing. I champion you and all the rest of the posters just for being brave enough to share this great music with us.
Make sure you work out any latency issues or change overs. You have enough on your plate without your equipment messing with your performance. There is nothing worse than the audience looking for your big solo, and you come in on "2" losing the key intiial impact, or bending over fiddling with knobs the size of pencil erasers. Get gear you are comfortable with and that gives you what you want. 'nuff said.
Fuzzy, you always have great positive posts and thank you for really taking on this Giant and slaying it in this one! looking forward to more, Dave B
