Post Warmth of the Sun
This has always been my favorite Beach Boys song. I used to have a little blue record player that had a little flip top and the Beach Boys Greatest Hits was the first album I was able to load and play by myself.

Such a lovely song, I hope you like it - Happy Thursday!

Gene, you playing is just so MUSICAL! Your videos are wonderfully predictable, in that I can click on them and rightfully expect to be pleased and entertained. Thanks for your efforts.

Gene,
What a wonderful beautiful song! I know the Beach Boys standard fare, and even partially heard them, couldn't see them, at the Washington DC performance in 1983, but I never heard this song in its entirety.

by the way, your performance, I agree with Walter, was perfect! Arrangement spot on.

and.... you inspired and sparked my curiosity to find out more about the song. It was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love on the evening of the JFK assassination. Mike Love said Brian wrote such a melancholy but pretty melody, it made him think of a lost love and although the love was lost, he'd always have the warmth of the sun to console him. Mike said he wanted to create an oasis that you could find comfort in.

Your arrangement and performance certainly did that! By the way I had a General Electric Wildcat stero that folded like a suitcase. I think the needle tracked at 10 pounds! :D

Gene, thanks again for one of "Gene's Gems"!

Thanks gents, I am honored to hear such words and so grateful to share in this musical adventure. I do love songs, and the Chapman Stick is the perfect side kick for this musical journey in the study of arranging, writing and appreciation.

So, my little blue record player - I think I had a Califone record player. I loved it so.

We also had the Beatles Yellow Submarine and Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts club Band as well LOTS of guitar jazz - Herb Ellis was my Mama's favorite. He was pretty bad ass. In looking back, it seems that most of the jazz that Mama had around the house was guitar based, which explains a lot about the jazz that I like to listen to most. My favorite album was a Great guitars album, it is out of print, but you can find CDs if you dig for them.

Cheers friends!

Great job Gene, one of my fave BB tunes. Brian Wilson is a master melody maker and you nailed this one.
I can't recall, have you done "Allison" from Elvis Costello? If not, I think you could translate a killer version on the stick...
Did I just request a song?

cheers,
kev

Great Guitars II??? The first one has been one of my listening staples for 25 years! I had no idea there was another - off to the Google!

If anyone hasn't heard this, it is one of the best jazz guitar albums ever...I highly recommend.

Alison! Yes, right on. I love that song!! He has such a unique voice, it will be a great challenge to learn those verses, GREAT suggestion.

Great Guitars II is fantastic.I too only recently discovered the first album. I believe that there is a third album that has a young Larry Coryell on it. Let me know if you have any trouble tracking GG2 down Randy, I can rip you a copy should you require.
