Post A simple song arrangement - Greg plays "Time After Time"
A simple arrangement of a blast from the past.

A student asked me to show her how to play this Cyndi Lauper tune, and I enjoy playing it, so I thought I'd record it. The melody is played only on 4 strings, so it can be payed on Classic 10-string, Matched Reciprocal or Baritone Melody.

The sound was a bit of a nod to all those 80's chorused guitars...any feedback is always welcome.

There are some really nice versions of this song out there, including a few by Stick players, so I hope I did it justice.

I thought the chorus effect made it sound very genuine. I didn't hear any feedback though ;) . I remember liking this best out of all her songs I knew. A few years ago I saw her perform it on some morning show(like the Today show) while she played the dulcimer!

Great job, Greg. I imagine your students are grateful to you for helping them with arrangements of songs to play! What a great teacher, too!

Mike

Great arrangement, sounds good. Wish I could keep my left hand on the move like that. Practice, Practice, Practice.

Harpo,
Hand movement is a constant in my technique in both hands. If you have my DVD, check out Chapter 14, "Hand Movement and Bass Chords" it might be helpful.

Greg,

Another amazing arrangement of an absolutely beautiful song. This song has a melancholy pathos which brings back a lot of bittersweet memories of a wonderful time.

This also showcases several techniques including use of "non stomp box" tools of dynamics and rubato tempo used very effectively at the end. You also picked up the line "the drum beats out of time"by syncopating the bass into a different time structure than the melody for that passage. Plus, you got the medodic variant of "I will be waiting" perfect that you could hear the words.

Credit where credit is due, Cyndi Lauper co-wrote "Time After Time" with Philadelphia rocker Rob Hyman of The Hooters, who also supplied backup vocals to the song. I met Eric Bazillian at songwriter circle here in Pittsburgh, and talked about their roles and also producing and writing for Joan Osbourne's big album. nice folk.

Your DVD is a great resource every Stickist should have. Multiple angles and info galore.

Thanks for all the kind comments as always. And you're one of many who has already pointed out to me my omission of Rob Hyman. I guess I can try to add the credit through annotation, but I've put it in the video description.

If there's interest, I think I will post a version of this video with the chords and melody shown as tabs in the same style as on the DVD. Does that sound good to you all?

Please do Greg! I never cared much for the original, but I simply love this arrangement. If it really is as "beginner friendly" as you suggest I would love to give this one a try.

Thanks for sharing :)
