Cool video, thanks for sharing! I found Billy Sheehan solo very original; he sounded totally different than the others.

Cheers, Daniel.

You know, as much as an influence that Tony Levin has been on me from his days with Peter Gabriel and King Crimson (plus he's the reason I wanted a Stick since I was in high school!) I am just not that impressed with anything that I have seen in these video postings that people are putting up.

I think the guy's amazing, but I honestly feel like these clips are very unimpressive and very unmusical...am I missing something? This isn't meant as a dig or a slight to TL or Steve or anything, I just dont get it.

Randy, I agree, certainly with that clip.
The applause from the audience is a combination of sympathy and novelty of the stick.
Then again who could jump in with that bunch of bass players and pull off a fitting bass solo on the stick? That's a tall order indead!

I love Tony Levin's work with Peter Gabriel, where his strength as a bass player and accompanist really work. From what I've read, Levin has always stressed that he uses the Stick for a particluar sound and effect, not as a solo shredding tool. Every time I hear him in this type of "chops-fest" situation he sounds completely out of his element.

I agree with Daniel; Billy Sheehan does his own thing here and steals the show.

Cheers,
Andy

Music is about playing for and in the situation. Often, spontaneous jamming will up the ante, because of the unknown element, not rehearsed and all.
One of my faves was once at NAMM when I went to see a demo trio of Larry Coryell (gtr), Jeff Berlin(bs) and Danny Gottlieb(dr). Larry was a no show, and they asked me to fill in. Stick and Jeff on bass? First reaction was "this will be a disaster". It turned out very magical. We were all amazed. Great memory.
I also have had the pleasure of creating spontaneous music with TL. He's a wonderful musician

That was fun! Thanks for hinting. I like the "warming up noise" they all make in the beginning before kicking off Mr PC. Nice how they kind of had fun with Black Market (Weather Report) around the drum solo part. Great fun to sit back and enjoy all the different colors that can come from just an electric bass. Even the Stick managed to pretend being an electric bass here, but maybe not totally convincing ;-)
