"Paint it Black" - Heartstrings style!
In the midst of working on our power-celtic project (which just may be the death of me
), we decided to begin work on another CD that is in high demand from the people at the art festivals and street fairs that buy our music. At the gigs, we often play a few classic rock covers. After attracting a big crowd, every customer asks the inevitable question: "Which CD is that song on?" We got tired of saying "Sorry, that one hasn't been recorded". We do this for a living, so sometimes you have to cater to the masses (you know, the people who keep you from having a day job
. So we started recording our classic rock cover CD "Tribute". It's been a really fun shift of gears and nice break from the project we've been hammering on for the last year. The new CD will have the usual suspects; Hendrix, Santana, Cream, Led Zep, Stones, etc.
This is a practice mix (plenty of flubs
) of "Paint it Black" by the Stones. I'm on the SG12 playing chords and melody while Mark is the "drummer", slapping the strings on his Grand to keep time and holding down the low end.
Since this song was basically two things over and over, we had to add a couple of sections. There's an interlude and solo just to break things up and keep it interesting. The solo at 2:05 might interest you. I let Mark hold down everything while I used both hands on the melody strings to play the 16th note arpeggios (tempo at a brisk 157 bpm).
Anyway, many more tunes to come and some new YouTube vids as well. Hope you enjoy - Matt
