Re: A little YouTube clip
Quite striking! The rhythm is inevitable, pendulum like, yet the personal dynamics are wide ranging, even into silence, but the music goes on. Andy is playing the instrument, not the other way around. I agree with Matt, a "smooth" and "floating" feel.
I agree with Konrad about "those effortless Stick hands." Quite obviously, the effort is coming from the center, from the heart. The hands are merely interwoven, in coordination.
From my experience, playing original music is playing at your best - best techniques, best concepts. I like to think of musicians as song birds (not so much as cats), each one with an individual meta-song different in style from all the other birds, even Charlie Bird.
Improvising daily on your "songscape", different themes start to crystallize and pretty soon you have a many faceted repertoire of unique originals, all in your own style which approaches a musical language (or at least a dialect).
Thanks Andy, for staying close to the core.

Nice Andy! Good example of why your last CD has somewhat become a permanent part of my car's CD player

Emmett, that hits the nail on the head in terms of what I'm striving for. It's a bit single-minded at times, and at the expense of being able to do an acceptable rendition of "Elephant Talk" (although I got a few nods and a $5 tip the last time I was coerced to try it in public...). Kev, I'd like to be more prolific in my video posts, and many other facets of life...I'm just too busy making a living most of the time. Thanks again everyone for your kind comments (Matchstickman, you're welcome to resurrect my old video posts anytime ) Cheers, Andy
