Post "Elegy for Emmett" by Greg
Hi Everyone,

Here is a video of the piece I composed for Emmett's memorial. Harmonically, "Elegy for Emmett" is based on a simple series of major triads, the roots of which form a whole tone scale, with melody notes creating extended harmonies on top of those triads. The approach reminded me of Emmett's in some ways, though he was a much more harmonically sophisticated composer and improviser than I am.

If you want to play it yourself, you can find a pdf lead sheet here:

A beautiful tune played beautifully on a beautiful instrument. Elegant & poignant. Thanks for sharing again greg.

I hope you won't mind me quoting this bit of additoinal info from the youtube page?

The video was recorded...on his golden Railboard, tuned to his favorite tuning, Raised Matched Reciprocal.

Thank you Greg for playing this again. So moving and so beautiful to see and hear Emmett's golden Railboard again. This is a wonderful tribute to Emmett. Thank you.

I really enjoyed hearing this during the service and I'm really glad that you shared it on it's own. I never knew Emmett but this feels like the spiritual expression of him, and of you. All of the physical and mental technicality boiled down to evocation. The communication is clear. Love your artistry and thanks again for sharing, Greg.
