Cloud Bending - "Kentucky Fried Stickin'" - Fractals & Railboard

I summon down the clouds and the fractal lightning, as I play an original Chapman Stick Railboard tune called "Kentucky Fried Stickin." Video made with Mandelbulber, and After Effects.

Awesome video and riffing! I like how you are embedding the performance in with the rest of the show!

Nifty! I'm hearing a Stickbassline (I always hear a Stickbassline) that's why I miss collaborating with someone.

OMG, it's a corona virus and this time it's really there, a living thing of immense and variable beauty with its characteristic spikes, tentacles and flairs. It's in the room with SS, who obliviously plays on, no doubt immune by now. I'd be curious to see the antibody come to life, a multi-billion dollar project but only in 3-D.

That's quite a virusy fractal, isn't it? Between the spikes and the tentacles, it's an extremely organic fractal formula. I strongly suspect that both insects and plants are built along these fractal lines, because it's no coincidence that insects look like these fractals, and the fractal shapes are so evocative of insects and viruses. Life is built on algorithms that propagate life. The spiral shape of shells are a mathematical expression of a code written in their DNA that reacts to environmental stimulus: a certain temperature reached, and a certain color is produced at that color and with a pattern that is mathematical and repeatable. And hackable and imitatible.

Leaves are fractals and branches are fractal because that's easy and efficient: split into two and keep splitting into two and ever finer hairs. The roots at the bottom and the branches and leaves at the top are two expressions of that constant fractal splitting: the roots into every finer hairs, and the branches into twigs into leaves into repeating leaf and petal shapes arranged in a circle around the bud.

And then the ancient lightning that brought Fire to prehistoric primates: the original fractal fingers forking across the sky. Bolts of fury from Zeus that branch out and branch out and strike all across the land. Hmmmm, fractals.

**********

I thought for a second that Gene thought I was Scott, and then I was simultaneously confused but complimented.

I love that tune, and that's a pretty cool thing to be compared to! Alas, any such resemblance is coincidental at best.

Thanks everyone for taking a look and a listen, and especially for commenting! I love to hear what you all think about the music, or the animations, or my manly and rugged face on your TV, with the metal Railboard out in the lightning like a dang fool. ( )

I've always liked art with variable but self-contained objects, rather than environments. Don't know why. Both are good. I like music that way too. It's all about the melody. At least for me, the melody is the reward. The accompaniment is the hard work. It's the same with lighting. I like the sculpted light fixture itself (no chandeliers please) rather than indirect lighting to create an illusion in the environment.

And Steve, it seems you 're on a trend toward the object itself as with this magnificent fractal life form. Just heard that CoViD 19 has tentacles produced by a much more complex RNA strand. Wonder if it's true? Let's ask the Woohan lab lady.
