Post Alto Stick , One Take Groove
Whilst Scott churns out videos faster than the ships bandwidth can watch them I thought I'd better try something.
A short idea I use as just some fun on the ship to escape reality and also as an independence exercise when I feel serious. The left hand is courtesy of something Josh posted a while back. It took me a while to just play straight time notes against it .
Of late I've looped that part and got both hands going on the melody side , which has opened doors and some inventive sounds. Maybe loopers are not evil :o
This is just something for the sake of posting , an actual press record , one take and bounce to disc. Old alto strings & and a water damaged Mac Air thats not happy , but I made it. The end is a bit odd, may have been distracted by the TV newsreader, really should turn it off when recording
Should be below.

Awesome, excellent work! It's really cool to hear some Tap Theory influence in there as well. Can I share this?

I like it, Bruce. Independence is something I obsess over for my own playing. Sometimes I can do it well, sometimes not so well. This seems like a great step in the right direction.

Share away Josh!

Mike , its been quite useful, when I first heard it I thought thats exactly the kind of thing I want to do. I spent lots of time in the cabin on the ship just getting straight quarter notes on the same note out of my right hand, whilst holding and improving the groove. Then I would play two or four different notes with the right hand. Like you it sometimes works but not always, making some progress though.
Lately I've looped that groove and started using two hands on the melody side, really great , just keep going & experimenting over the loop.
I think I'll be able to bend this into something I can use in my set, in my quest for more material.
