Post Stick Tune - Like Jeff
I thought I'd post a quick cover of this tune of "Leave A Tip's" (Steve Adelson) homage to Jeff Beck on his "Sonic Imagination" album. lol Not sure if anyone on this forum has heard the tune besides me and Sagehalo, so here goes... :D

I just did a small chunk of it and yeah, there's some clams in there - It's not perfect... lol I suppose if I spent a bit more time on it it would be tighter. All good; done for fun, right? Anyways, enjoy! I know I had some fun with it...

Awright, back to renovations...

Dude, you are not locked with the drummer. jk.

To take on a song written for Stick, drums and piano, you know you are going to leave out a lot. That's just a given. The melody is there. The feel is different, but intentionally so. For me, the great things about the song is the ensemble feel and the traded solos. This cannot be accomplished by one person, or else Steve would have done it that way. For what your version is, I like it. It just cannot cover all of the great things about the song.

This points out one of the great challenges of Stick. When we cover non-Stick music or Stick+ (duos, trios and beyond) music, how do we arrange it? Which music do we choose to cover? It isn't easy. Then you actually have to play what you pick.

lol :D No drummer, I like these tunes to be just about the Stick for now... I've done quite a few, yes? I have only posted about a 10th of what I have actually read down; the record button is always pressed when I practice... But hey, thanks for checking it out, this was fun to play.

We gotta agree to disagree again on a small point, dude... hehehe I think this little piece of music Steve wrote stands up on it's own, even when played by a hack like me. I think I invested upwards of about a half hour into playing it... And I used my own motif for outlining the harmonic structure. No, I'm not going to even try to emulate the other instruments, 'cause I am just not interested in them... (Yes, they're all really great - no offense intended.)

So why would I do this tune? Well 'cause it's fun, and even if the piece doesn't translate that well to some folks' ears, it's very worthwhile in my opinion to pursue it. I am working hard at being able to create a quick "sketch" of a tune from very basic materials (a score, transcribing, etc) - any tune, not just Stick music. Some will turn out better than others, I'm okay with that. Lots of work to be done... Fun, fun, fun.

That was cool. Good on you for taking that one on. Left hand Motor motor motor, and Android is right, your Folsom Prison rocked! I still think that one was too short. Good stuff and thanks for sharing, Scott!

I don't know what LH motor is, I just wanna rock. :D

Thanks for checking it out guys, it was fun to put together. I actually transcribed the solo for this one as well as all of the ensemble parts, but I just kind of read down a "meat and potatoes" version... lol y'know, "git 'er done" hahah
