Post Original Work
Since Scott seems to be dominating the field, I thought some variety might be nice. This song was a lesson assignment I had two weeks to do, so the transitions are a little rough. I seem to be caught in the middle of it, perspective-wise, but I haven't done anything this complex in about 15 years, so it makes me happy. I can't say if it is done or not, or what it might benefit from, besides practice. I literally wrote it by considering parts from a muse-base, from technique base and from music theory base and combined it with cut and paste, i.e. scissors and glue.

Post Re: Original Work
An ambitious undertaking, and I applaud anyone who shares their works. Nice, and thanks! Especially in the "formative" stages, where an idea is transitioning from concept to hard copy.

I am going to get a little critical here, but it's meant in the most positive way so I hope it's taken as that.

As a listener, and not a player of any kind I find myself struggling to find a definite pulse/groove.
In my own works, I find that no matter how complex or harmonically dense the idea is, a simple idea with a definite groove will be far more infectious.

So that's it, fella. Cool stuff, but I'd like to hear the time nailed down a bit better; same critique I have of my own stuff.

Looking forward to more.

Scott,

What you pointed out was constructive criticism and is absolutely taken as such. I do want to know what other people both like and dislike about it, and what could make it better.

You are also absolutely correct that it lacks a pulse / groove. Many songs benefit from this concept, with some exceptions. In speaking with the founders of Happy the Man, reformed as Oblivion Sun, they actually intentionally do not play with a groove and write in free time. Their drummer and bass player hate this of course, due to the standard rules not applying any more. Having been a bass player most of my musical life in bands, it is a bit odd that I didn't choose a groove. That's where I guess my solo piano self was taking over and I wanted a more free time. Someday I might develop a Chapman Stick self, but I still am not sure what that will sound like exactly.

Thanks for the listen and the comments. I will never be offended by you trying to help me.
