So, I've been practicing a lot of Stick lately, and I thought it would be a great day to do some creating. A sort of "soundtrack" tune. My youngest daughter invented this crazy beast that she is currently studying called "The Savage Kakar". She's six, and really likes dinosaurs and monsters and things like that.

Some Kakar facts:
- They are invisible while hunting unless in the presence of dandelions (Only weakness)
- Savage when provoked, sounds like they would easily eviscerate a T-Rex
- They like to be petted
- The Savage Kakar loves waffles
- They love to watch TV

Overall, this was a really fun tune to put together, and the Stick really stands out as an arrangement tool as well as a starring role in this little piece of music.
A fun guitar solo - It starts in A Locrian nat9 (ABCDEbFG) for 8 measures, then G Mixolydianb6 (GABCDEbF) for another 8 measures, I was trying to conjure a shreddy Kim Thayil. At the heart of the tune is, of course the Chapman Stick. A collection of the riffs I've been messing with of late, I hope y'all dig it.

Love it!

We talk about creativity in music and in life, well there is NOTHING more creative than a child's mind. It's great that you have connected a soundtrack to her monster. Have you played it to her yet? It will be in her head every time she thinks about the creature now, and will just spark even more creativity from her. Not only great playing and musicianship, but great parenting too!

Thanks for sharing buddy. With your release of image rights I might just introduce the Kakar into bedtime stories in my house! :-)

Oh, share away, dude. Spread the legend!

Kids are absolutely amazing. Lol Jorja was listening while I created it and asked what the heck I was doing. I said "Soundtrack of the deadly Kakar..." and she kind of rolled her eyes and said "Dad, that was pretty not too bad, but..." Kakar music is apparently a lot more like Demi Lovato, Taylor Swift, or Alicia Keys. Lol She did say I could try again, only next time I could try to make it less "trishion-man" music (Electrician, perhaps?) hahaha

That was "pretty not too bad" is a saying from where I am from that implies "one step up from tragically terrible". Jorja meant it as a genuine compliment though, I am sure she sees me as some sort of mad scientist. Funny stuff!

And yes, the Savage Kakar's legend should be spread around.
More fun facts...
- Kakars don't like to eat eggs.
- Kakars are allergic to Cats.
- Kakars like to eat orange people who make explosions. (Think about that one for a sec, we are a Canadian family, we don't talk politics, and we try to shield our kids as much as possible from the insanity in the world, and this kid is in kindergarten...)
- Kakars like fuzzy blankets, cupcakes and unicorns.

Listening to the Beatles Station on Sirius today, they played an interview about "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". Despite what so many people want to believe, the song had absolutely nothing to do with LSD. It all came from a drawing Julian Lennon showed his father. The drawing inspired John Lennon to create lyrics based off that drawing, illustrating a child's imagination.

That being said, nice try, it's not easy doing an instrumental piece to reflect a child's imagination. 8-)

Thanks for the description of the story (heart warming) and the modal usage (illuminating). I would not have picked out what you said had you not said it. And still, it doesn't sound like "experimental" music, it just sounds good.

Great stuff, Scott! First off, the story and your daughter are just the most adorable things ever!

Kids are the hardest critics. My daughter sounds like she has similar tastes to yours, only mine is almost 15 now. She has avoided most of my music like the plague the last couple of years. But she likes some of my dance stuff, so I don't know whom that speaks worse of, me or her. And she keeps telling me to make things simpler, and to sing, only she doesn't actually want to hear ME sing, just to have singing.

As to the music, wow! That's some pretty cool stuff. I kept thinking that each new section was the best part of the song so far, until the next section came up that was better. I guess my favorite riff was around the 1:58 to 2-minute mark. But there was a lot to choose from!

Thanks so much for sharing the song and the story, Scott! May you discover and make that perfect Kakar music, only to find out that now she's into John Cage or something. Or, maybe, Skrillex.

Awesome Sticking as well!

Hi Scott. I listened to this over on Facebook but wanted to comment here. I like this very much. I think what I liked best the first listen through was the bass line. I listened to it a few more times and with each listen I found something new to admire. You should really get some guitar lessons though! :P

Hey guys, thanks for checking it out! It's fun to make music! I really appreciate the observations and comments fellas.

Apparently things have changed, that picture is NOT a savage Kakar, but rather a "Goomery-goo" which is a totally different creature altogether, haha funny stuff...
